And what you can’t seem to understand is that you are playing the game of the pot calling the kettle black. Rejecting the documents ofVatican 2, aside from the breadth and depth of hubris this shows, is playing the same game of “pick and choose” that you accuse the liberals of doing. Vatican 2 is part of the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. You can no more reject it and be a Catholic than can a liberal reject the Church’s stance on abortion and be a Catholic

Actually, you have it backward. The reason they reached a compromise with Rome is because they accept the documents of Vatican 2. My, isn’t that grand of you.
I think you’re a little off here. Rejecting Vatican II doesn’t mean I’m not Catholic. If Vatican II itself went against the teachings of the Church then why the heck should I accept it? You can tell me I have to accept it all you want but it does no good since you aren’t the Pope or anything. Although really, the Pope wouldn’t convince me to accept it either.

And yeah, I know the FSSP accepted the Vatican II Documents.

One can suppose whatever one wants about the Holy Ghost, but if you are a Roman Catholic, your suppositions cannot override the declaration of an Ecumenical Council invoking the Holy Spirit.

First of all, only if you are a sedevacantist (or a non-Roman Catholic) can you reject the teachings of Vatican II. Otherwise you are, in effect, arguing with God.

Secondly, you are not the arbiter of Tradition. I’m sure the Dutch Catholics who left the Roman Church after Vatican I thought the Holy Ghost wanted nothing to do with that particular Council. Those folks, largely in a retrospective agreement with the Eastern Orthodox Churches, decided that the solemnly-defined doctrines of supreme papal primacy and infallibility were not wholly in accordance with Tradition. Now they actually have a decent leg to stand on, but Roman Catholics must naturally disagree, appealing ultimately to the authority of the Council itself, which derives its authority from the Holy Spirit. In the Roman Church, the final definition of “Tradition” (either small- or lower-case “t”) rests with the Church herself.
The reason I say the Holy Ghost was not pleased with Vatican II is primarily because Our Lady Herself warned us about a “diabolical dis-orientation” that would take place. So would you mind telling me how The Holy Ghost can be pleased with a diabolical dis-orientation? I’m not arguing with God on this matter, I’m arguing with the heresy that took place at Vatican II. You may say that it isn’t possible for Vatican II to have been a bad Council because the Holy Ghost guides the Church and Christ said the gates of Hell would not prevail against it. But did Christ ever say the gates of Hell wouldn’t reduce the Church to a remnant? We already know this is possible as it has already happened through the Protestant reform.

Are you going to attack my knowledge of things in every reply you make to one of my posts? It’s really a violation of forum rules.

Your ad hominem post does not even address me judging the actions of John Paul II and therefore I can’t really take your post seriously. I’m free to judge the actions of John Paul II if I want. As long as I’m not judging his soul or motives I’m not doing anything wrong.
Attacking your knowledge is attacking your argument. That is not an ad hominum attack. People who know better will continue to “attack” your arguments, if you put forward stuff like there was a second Sister Lucia who was an imposter, etc.

It is a “disorientation” according to you, who has absolutely no authority to say that’s what it is anyway, and Our Lady never once said “Vatican II will BE that diabolical disorientation.” Your making the same mistake Protestant eschatologists make when they read the Prophet Daniel or the The Book of Reveletion. You’ve taken what the Lady said and tried to fit it to the council.

As per your other question/statement, yes, it is orthodox, even “traditional,” Catholic thought that to deny or reject an Ecumenical Council is to cease to be Catholic.

The remnant will always include the teaching authority, because it is only to Peter and the Apostles (and their successors, the Popes and Bishops teaching in union with them) that Christ’s promise of binding and loosening and against the gates of hell apply.

Good think you didn’t live during the time we had three popes at the same time.

JREducation and I had a discussion about this. If he indeed did abide by canon law’s necessity clause (and only God knows that) Lefebrve did not excommunicate himself. It appears more likely the Pope excommunicated ABL (ferendae sententiae) but he can do that with anyone at anytime for any reason and call it anything he wants because he is the final judge. In any case the excommunications were lifted last year. All we’re looking for now is a completely level playing field.
I don’t think only God knows that.

I’m don’t know exactly the origin or the thought behind the necessity clause, but I suspect that it has far more to do with the Church in oppressive lands or situations where hierarchs cannot contact the Holy See and must act independently, on their own judgment. Say perhaps a bishop isolated in China or a Soviet gulag, knowing he’s going to die, wanting to secure a priest or a bishop to continue the sacraments for the faithful, would have legitimate recourse to such actions as LeFebreve took.

But in LeFebreve’s case, he had communicated with AND VISITED the Holy See. Cardinal Ratzinger was the one he dealt with. A deal had been worked out between him and the Holy Father. He was being given a great deal of what he wanted. He agreed to it and then reneged on his agreement. So when the Holy Father and Cardinal Ratzinger/Benedict XVI say no necessity existed, it’s disingeneous to say that one did. It’s a spurious argument to justify what cannot be justifed.

I’m not rejecting Tradition. Tradition states that the Church cannot reach out to other religions.
Please identify your source of information on this point; you are stating it as a fact, so it should be easy to obtain the source from the Church’s statements. A good place to start would be with the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
Exactly what you saw with JPII, he wasn’t trying to convert them, he only prayed with them. Therefore, Vatican II is in violation of Church Tradition and was so close, if not spot on, to being a heretical Council.
Your lack of logic is truly amazing. How you can get from an act by John Paul 2 to go backwards to prove that by that act the council has anything to do with the act and therefore is either heretical or borderliine totally escapes me.
And really, just because Vatican II was teaching some heresy doesn’t make the Pope a heretic. Paul VI may have organized it but he wasn’t in charge of the reform, he hired people to do it behind the scenes. There are also rumors that Paul VI was forced to do it and that he was “truely sorry” for what he had done. So even thought some could say Paul VI was a heretic, I don’t think it’s right to say that because we don’t know exactly what his beliefs were on the subject. As rumors state, he may have been forced to do it or there may have even been two of Paul VI. I don’t think two of Paul VI is as convincing nor as easy of a thing to firuge out as the two Sister Lucias, but it’s possible.
You not only need to stop reading some of the trash you ahve been perusing, but you also need to take a basic course in logic.

And what you don’t get is that your lack of understanding is not proof that Vatican 2 "went against the teachings of the Church. It fonly means that you do not understand the teachings of Vatican 2, or else the teachings of the Church prior to Vatican 2 sufficiently to be able to understand how they do not contradict prior teachings.

Perhaps your last statement is most telling of all. Benedict 16 not only has a PhD. in theology - do you? He has taught theology for a significant part of his life - have you? By his position in the Church, the Gospels indicate and the Tradition of the Church affirms that he cannot err in matters of Faith and Morals. Do you have such indications about your ruminations on them?

Or do you just have hubris?

Ah, and don’t tell me, YOU would have known who was the legitimate one, right?
Can we say “red herring” in this conversation? What happened centuries ago is irrelevant to the legitimacy of the documents of Vatican 2. We have had only one pope at a time from John 23rd since, which is the period we are discussing.
Each has been officially and properly elected; each has supported the documents of Vatican 2, and the last 2 - JP2 and B16 have both said that in interpreting the documents of V2, they must be interpreted in light of the 2000 year history of the Church and neither has seen any problems in doing so.

No, I won’t tell you that, because I don’t know that it would be true. I hope my reaction would be along the lines of that of St. Jeanne d’Arc: “If I am in God’s Grace, I pray He will keep me there. If I am not in God’s grace, I pray He place me in it.”

You really shouldn’t read into things.

I had no “secret intent” in posting that to Kirk. And I am talking to him, not you.

Your comment would be true… if Vatican II was even Catholic, that is. Which it wasn’t. You can’t tell me it was, either. Protestants, Buddhists, paganists, and even free masons were there. Not to mention the suggestions given by the Protestants. And some of the people who celebrated the first Novus Ordo were Protestant.

As for Our Lady, since you seem to think I’m ignorant on this subject, perhaps you could explain why Our Lady said not to reveal the secret any sooner or later than 1960. She said it would make more sense then. What does that tell you? But again, explain in your own words why Our Lady was not talking about Vatican II.

Sure, I have several good links.

And I have already taken courses in logic many years ago. Nice try, though.

There are some pretty big leaps in logic in this post, which begins with an unsupported assumptions. So to focus on only with the two biggest, when did Mary warn us about a “diabolical disorientation”? I think you will find that the answer is that she did not - you are attributing to her a statement made by Sister Lucy. Second, why do you jump to the conclusion that she was referring to VII - Lucy never said that.

If you; want to have a private discussion, there is a method. If you post here, it is public; so one should expect comments from others. Secret intent? LOL. It was pretty public.

Then you need a brush up, as your logic is lacking in many of your posts.

As I noted - please cite your source to Rome. I did not ask if you had good links. I asked you to cite from any official Church documents that would back up your statements.

You know what. I’ve heard many people complain that the Vatican is too strict and we have always believed that the Church teaches the truth, even if it is hard to hear, and we shouldn’t avoid it out of pride. But I think we must do the same we it seems the Chruch is making things “less strict.” The Lord said to trust his Church, not only when it supports the views we have, which can go both ways.

I’m consider myself quite traditional, but I trust the Church (b/c I trust Christ) that she knows what is best for the flock.

\And sorry I didn’t read the whole thread. :o
