Caritas is a major agency of the Catholic Church. It is an international Catholic confederation including 164 national Catholic charities (including for example the US Catholic Relief Services).
After earlier this year dismissing its head (who then went and complained in the National Reporter), the Church has been increasing Church involvement in the governance of Caritas and calling for its greater Catholic identity and evangelization, actions which have included suspension of donations to agencies involved in abortion and population control.
