Although I’m attending an Anglican parish, I wish to see Catholicism improve its PR personally. They have so much to offer and I do want them to resonate with the public and have a good relationship with the media if possible. Is PR the be-all, end-all? Not by a long shot. The truth comes first. I merely think it was bad timing and poor judgement.

LOL about the vomit! LOL All this talk of vomit puts me in the mood to go watch the Exorcist. Yeah, baby!
Relatively certain that topics were grouped in relation to discipline of priests/bishops.
Awkward combo of topics, but so it goes.

For you? Warm ginger ale and saltines whenever you feel queasy.

I’m not queesy actually. I’m 100% typhoid-free now. So is my little 3-year old daughter. And oddly enough I didn’t vomit ONCE with typhoid? Things like watching the Dodgers win make me queasier.

Great. Thanks for clarifying.
Had never heard of vomiting as common symptom of typhoid fever.
(Have heard of GI issues and problems with the other end of the GI tract.)

Anyway, poor you, poor daughter. Glad it’s gone.

Very well said Christopher. It shows a complete lack of tact on the Vatican’s part, and all the reactionary crowing doesn’t change the fact that this will only alienate more people from a Church struggling to remain relevant in the 21st century.

Our Church is badly in need of reform, and this. is. not. it.
Our Church needs to stick with the authentic teachings of Christ and stop butchering the faith to satisfy modernism.

I believe that the Church has remained fully authentic in its teaachings.
What is your objection, what is angering you?

Mostly the false teachings of Vatican II (i.e. ecumenism, laity on the altar).

With technology there are often things called Patch Notes or Service Packs. Although all of the changes affect the program, not all the changes within the Patch Notes/Service Pack have the same severity. (…)

People didn’t respond with “ZOMG, M$ is putting cosmetic changes ahead of IT security!!11!!eleven”. It makes logical sense that if you are making changes to a specific program, you compile all the changes into one document. We do that in IT, and other Nation States do this too (especially with budgets). And several changes that happen to judicial systems as well.
This is the best analogy I’ve read about this whole Vatican ‘update’ to a document.

There were several changes yet the media (and more than a few Catholics) pounced on two very different ones and equated the fact that they were in one document with being equal in status. Bad journalism and sad Catholics who didn’t bother to find out what this document actually is all about.

Since the Holy Father is the one graced with all graces needed
for his office of leadership, why would you imagine that you could know better than he?

Your statement of false teachings reflects your opinion.
In no way does it have any valid authority standing behind it.

Using Trent, the Bible, and the teachings of saints and popes prior to mid-twentieth century as the standard. How can you not conclude that these changes of Vatican II are not heretical. Modernists are the ones who are disobedient to the faith.

As I already said, you have no authority that would allow you to call a teaching “false.”
The authority you pretend to have is reserved to the Pope and the Bishops.

I can conclude that the teachings of Vatican II are NOT heretical because I studied them.
I was born in 1945, Nothing is hearsay to me. Rather all is prayer and study.

The outcome for me (and for all who cherish the Church) is obedience - not rebellion.

She learns from her priests, a number of whom are generally in favor of opening the priesthood to women.
It doesn’t matter if all the priests are “open” to it. Who can be a priest is not a matter of positive law. It’s a matter of divine law and is closed.

Lets say the document just released by Rome is Service Pack 3. The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith is Windows XP.

Both of these were found in the same patch notes (support.microsoft.com/kb/946480). The first one is a fix for a cosmetic issue with a really old web browser. The second one fixes a vulnerability which could allow unauthorized access (ie; computer rape).

These are obviously not at the same level of severity, as color settings is MUCH less severe than unauthorized access (computer rape). But because the fixes were released at the same time for the same program they were released with the same document.

Exactly. It’s the same things as an omnibus bill going through Parliament. It’s a waste of resources for the CDF to release like 7 separate declarations about all the areas they updated instead of doing just 1.

I see we have moved the thread from “The Catholic Church isn’t liberal enough!” to “The Catholic Church is too liberal!”.

You know what I call people who say Vatican II was heretical?

I call them heretics.

What are the odds?

As I have stated its not my authority that has called these teachings heretical its in the history of the catholic faith, the holy fathers. Are you saying they were wrong Vatican II and the popes who supported its documents correct. How can the church guided by the holy spirit be in error for so many years? What are the fruits of the new documents? Near empty schools for the clergy and circus music inside his holy house? Lets not forget religious women who look more like retreat coordinators than the daughters of the most high. If vatican II is a look to the future of the church, Merciful Jesus let me die now before it gets worse.

For someone who is “traditional” you seem lack lack something called “historical context”.

Abuses took place frequently throughout the last 2000 years. We can see that even in Scripture. The difference is now we have the media and the world becoming a Global Village in addition to the viral movement, so word travels faster (and with a heavy bias).

Either Liberals malign the Church, or members such as yourself malign the Church.

I hope you understand by saying what you do…you have become what you have fought against.

To use your analogy, I feel like we went from a reasonably stable Windows 95 with our previous Pope to Windows Me with Ratzinger. This current program is full of security loopholes and viruses, the best course of action would be a completely new OS.

Yup, it’s a huge waste of time and resources. And even then, the same people would still complain.

Patch Notes, people. It’s not hard to figure out. These are the Patch Notes/Service Pack for the CDF.

I am saying that YOU are wrong - because you are rejecting the Catholic Church.

In fact, why do you call yourself ‘Roman Catholic’ if you believe the Church is a false teacher? It is Our Lord, Jesus Christ, Who has promised that He is with His Church until the end of time. It is Our Lord Jesus Christ Who says that His Church will NEVER be defeated by the devil. In fact, you are denying Him when you dismiss the teachings of His Church.

How could you stray so far from Turth?

LINUX 🙂

Before I leave for the day, I wish to express that my resentment is towards VII and nothing personal against the previous posters. I attend a novus order church and every week things seem to be going down hill. I believe in the only and only holy church of our lord christ and its teachings that have been passed down through the ages. Also believe that our lady foretold of a time of darkness. gtg

You do realize that the previous pope is the one who wrote the encyclical making it very clear that the ordination of women is completely impossible - something the Magisterium can’t change because it was instituted by Christ? He also reaffirmed the preference for celibacy in the Roman Church, that artificial birth control is a sin, homosexual acts are sins, etc.

What is the “change” with Pope Benedict XVI that bothers you exactly? 🤷

Yoo-HOO?

The name “Holy Spirit” is always written with capital letters.
Ditto for the use of the term “Most High …” -
and what are you doing judging the attire of religious women of any faith?

Times are always troubled when certain members of the Church turn to grumbling.
Things are even worse when members accuse the Church of false teaching.

That’s a part of Church Teaching. Get it?
