This sounds like an overdue idea. Surely it will make the paper accessible to more people. And, perhaps, people may be more willing to subscribe even for the online edition. Yes, its sad that we might have to pay, but they do have expenses to meet and the cost of setting up and maintaining the website won’t be cheap.
As with The Times (of London), the Wall Street Journal, and the New York Times, I think more “big name” newspapers will move toward some kind of online subscription. Online advertising isn’t sufficient. (Does l’Osservatore Romano even take ads?)
