My Protestant friend told me something about the obelisk and that according to Wiki, it symbolized the sun god Ra, and during the brief religious reformation of Akhenaten was said to be a petrified ray of the Aten, the sundisk. It was also thought that the god existed within the structure.

He told me that there is one in Vatican city and there is a cross at the peak of it.

He told me that the Vatican and the Catholic Church is mixing paganism with Yshua our God and that the Catholic Church, is thus, paganism and thus a false church.

I read Wiki and what he said appears about the Sun God appears to be true.

What is the Vatican’s / Church’s answer to this?

Oh, for heaven’s sake, “wiki” entries are not reputable sources of information.
What is the Vatican’s / Church’s answer to this?
Nothing, because there is nothing to say. Really, have we come to this?

This is false. That should be your answer too.

I am attending this keyboard class in “Believer Music”, a Protestant run music school and in one of their lessons, The Roman Empire, they have a photo of the Vatican obelisk and they describe the obelisk as symbolizing the Sun God. My protestant friend asked me what does the Catholic Church have to say about this. I told him I will go back and fnd out … please help me.

There is an inscription on it that is very telling.
“Christ conquers, Christ reigns, Christ commands. Christ, from all evil, defend your people.”

The real meaning is that Christ Has Conquered all!

The problem with Protestants is, they don’t understand Christening or Chrismation and so misinterpret everything.

Additionally, they really have no room to speak about it.By the time Protestants came along, The Church had long since converted all of the pagans of Europe to Christ and Europe had by that time been a Catholic Christian region for 1600 years. Do not listen to the ignorant, they will lead you astray.

Hey thanks Ignatius.

The teacher in this school made a comment to the students telling us what kind of church can combine a cross with the structure that symbolises the Sun God. Now I can tell my protestant friend and maybe the teacher about this inscription.

They may have other arguments though, like why didn’t the Vatican just demolish the paganist structure.

But I know the reason to that is the obelisk is a mark of architectural history and is a mark to remember the persecuation of Christians and St Peter.

It’s a pointy piece of rock. It’s ancient. Enough said.

It is actually a symbol of the triumph of Christianity over paganism, that is why the cross is on top of it.

The Church does not destroy she converts if she can, the obelisk has been converted into a Christian structure which is my opinion is much better than simply destroying it.

This person does not seem to be a very good friend. Why would a friend try to portray something he has no real knowlege of as truth?

The guy I spoke is from the same class as me.

I am trying to see where these fundamentalists are coming from.

What if they tell me putting a cross on the obelisk is like putting a cross on a pagan deity?
But that is probably not the same. For one, the obelisk does not look like a deity. The obelisk has architectural and historical significance.

Let’s back up just a bit in time here: 2,000 years ago, there was a pagan symbol that signified a horrible death by torture. It was reserved for the worst: murderers, robbers, revolutionaries. It was also used capriciously, if the pagan emperor or his representative was insulted, or by popular demand. It was universally feared and hated. What was it? The wooden cross.

So, is Christianity then hypocritical and pagan because it uses the cross? Inconceivable! Jesus, by shedding His Blood on that cross, forever transformed it from the pagan symbol of death to the Christian’s universal symbol of eternal life.

The obelisk simply pales to nothingness in comparison to this, does it not?

My question is why the teacher feels the need to bring up Catholicism and take a stab at them in a keyboard class.

The keyboard class is meant to teach music for worship and praise. The class is opened to all Christians (Catholic or Protestant) as long as you are comfortable with worship music. I think the company that runs this class has fundamentalist Christianity background and they probably want to try to influence Catholics to doubt their Faith.

Which would be completely inappropriate behavior in a school. If there’s someone you can complain to, do so immediately. At the very least, you might want to ask the teacher why he/she is trying to teach you about historical artifacts that have nothing to do with music. A simple, innocuously worded question like “what does this have to do with the class?” can work wonders.

Romans–pagan or Catholic–recognized in this massive pink granite monolith a rare gem, a precious, faceted stone. Romans pagans were not worshiping the Sun. Ditto Roman Catholics, who repurposed this gorgeous artifact of God’s creation and man’s creativity for the technical piece of equipment used by Sun worshipers and clock-watchers alike: a gnomon used to cast a shadow to tell time. Sundial. And this sundial is a Christian sundial, consecrated to Jesus Christ and having prayers of exorcism inscribed on two faces. Now, below are quotes from the prophet Malachi. Is he pagan? The Sun is God’s Sun, period. I won’t throw out the rainbow as a covenant sign because niddy-noddys have ripped it off as their GLBTXYZ’s symbol. We conquer, we occupy, and we hold on to our stuff. God’s Sun. The Sun of Justice of Malachi.

King James Bible
But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.
American King James Version
But to you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and you shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.
American Standard Version
But unto you that fear my name shall the sun of righteousness arise with healing in its wings; and ye shall go forth, and gambol as calves of the stall.
Douay-Rheims Bible
But unto you that fear my name, the Sun of justice shall arise, and health in his wings: and you shall go forth, and shall leap like calves of the herd.

My Norwegian relatives LOVE to watch the cows (they call 'em something that sounds like “coos”) and calves being turned out of their stalls for the first time in spring. After a long winter eating stored hay and confined to the barn, the cows are released into the green pasture. They kick up their heels and dance like ecstatic ballerinas. So Malachi’s reference to going forth like calves let out of a stall is the most delightful joy imaginable. That’s the joy of the “Sun of Justice.” Christ was, early on, often depicted as the Apollo/Sun figure, young and beardless, and it is presumed that the Shroud of Turin influenced images as they then carried artifacts seen on the Shroud of Turin, like the center forehead lock which was actually a blood trail.

Now tell your anti-Catholic friends to hand over their “pagan” wedding rings to you to be melted down, sold and the proceeds given to the poor. This pink rock clock has biblical underpinnings unlike their pagan gold and platinum and diamond baubles. PS Akhenaton’s Egyptian Sun worship was monotheistic; and he was very buddy-buddy with the Jews, granting them valuable concessions in Egyptian holdings in the Holy Land. Invite your anti-Catholics to RCIA, please. They deserve a 2,000-year-old Church founded by Jesus Christ on Peter the Rock. That’s the real Rock they’re taking pot shots at…“And the gates of Hell will not prevail against it.”
