Interestingly enough, one person who was not a huge fan of receiving Holy Communion in the hand was Blessed Teresa of Calcutta.
Everyone has a right to their opinion.

Communion in the hand has been part of the Church, it is a valid part of our history and traditions.

If that is the case, then, why, pray tell, has the secretary (who is number two on the totem pole) of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments said what he said?

A lot of what people said came from Vatican II never did. People are so hung up on the spirit of the council that they have either not read the actual documents, much less paid attention to them.

Hey, if you want a finger stuck on your tongue that’s touched another hundred or so in the last five minutes, not to mention the hair of assorted “blessees”…that’s your business, but don’t make it mine.
I belong to a parish where Communion on the tongue is by far the most common ( in fact, since our parish intincts the Host, it’s actually required, Communion in the Hand is forbidden in those circumstances )

No one touches anyone’s tongue in the process.

I don’t know where you get that silly idea.

Plenty of priests report it happening.

I can’t read the heart of mind of the secretary.

I have already shared some information showing that people in the Primitive church did receive in the hand in a similar thread to this in Traditional Catholocism. It may not have been universal but it was done and it was acceptable.

Here is one link - obtained from a post in the CAF Ask an Apologist section:

I’ve received on the tongue since the 60’s. Never has it happened that my tongue/lips have been touched in the process.

And I have shared information which shows why they did it and why it was acceptable.

I notice that you ignored that post… Wonder why? Doesn’t fit into your arguments perhaps to have the truth put out there instead of the same old worn out platitudes?

While I am looking please provide documentation that it does not happen and priests never say it does.

TIA
I never said it didn’t happen… You said it did. Big difference. Oh excuse me you said many priests said it happened. Kind of lets you off the hook a little.

If you present something as a fact don’t you agree you should be prepared to back it up if asked to?.

I thought intinction itself was forbidden?

As for Communion in the hand, it just seems so irreverent to me. I don’t mean disrespect to anyone, but just think- this is JESUS that you’re receiving! It’s GOD! It doesn’t seem quite right to me to hold it in your hand. (Same logic, for me, goes for genuflecting in front of the tabernacle. But that’s another story.)

SELF intinction is not allowed but if done by the priest it is ok.

Looks like Eilish is pulling that same tactic used that other time when she/he claimed JPII spoke in tongues.

Same ‘tactic’?

What about the ‘tactic’ of putting down any and all materials posted - at times even from this site - if it supported something I said?

Why do I have to have proof and no one else has to?

Prove I am not being accurate or truthful and keep the personal attacks out of it.

Just a note - if you do not get a response to a question you are most likely on my ignore list. Please do NOT twist silence into something it isn’t. TIA

Nothing personal about it. Just made an observation based on a prior thread.

Before I get up to stand in the queue to receive Holy Communion (in my hands), I like to ponder the words of St. Cyril for just a quick moment:

‘St. Cyril of Jerusalem’s fifth Mystagogic Catechesis, which he preached to neophytes in 348 A.D., in which he counsels the faithful to **“place your left hand as the throne of your right one, which is to receive the King (in Holy Communion)” **’

Rf. L’Osservatore Romano. English edition, June 14, 1973, p. 6

Over lunch today, I will go my parish’es noon mass. I will talk to our priests ( pastor, associate pastor, and our 91 year old ‘retired’ priest in residence).

They distiributed the Eucharist on the tongue to hundreds each day, and thousands on Sunday. Fr. Valerian, our 91 year old priest, has been doing it that way all his life. (FYI, we don’t use EMHC’s at our parish, the 3 priests come out to distribute the Eucharist at EVERY Mass, and they are assisted by our 2 parish deacons on Sunday Masses.

(well, occasionaly we will have EMHC’s; whenever any of our 6 seminarians are home for the weekend, they will Read ( as they are Instituted Readers) and those that are Instituted Acolytes will help distibiute Holy Communion)

I’m sure we’ll get some great insight to how often any of these men touch someones tongue in the process.

I can testify that it has never happend to me in my years at this parish.

Be prepared to be told that such accounts will not be ‘proof’ - unless some here are just pulling that nonsense on me.

:hmmm:

What it would prove is that it is quite possible for 91 year old priests to give Communion on the tongue to hundreds of parishiones daily without touching anyone’s tongue.

Give that, it would follow that if a younger priest is having difficulty, the problem is at his end, not with the method. Just like I am sure there are EMHC’s out there that don’t wipe the right spot on the chalice after each use.

Since you seem to be aware of priests that can’t help but stick their fingers on other peoples tongues during this process feel free to have them contact Fr. Valerian. I’ll PM you the parish’s contact information.

He’ll set them straight 👍

Thanks for the offer but I don’t need the contact information.

When I did serve as an EMHC I was trained by a priest who has been ordained 50 yrs - HE shared that it was not always possible to avoid touching someone’s tongue.

And to clear things up - there are those who claim that such information is not ‘proof’ - so you could have the Pope talk about being unable to totally avoid ever touching a communicant’s tongue

and it is not covered by all the news agencies
and later confirmed by the Vatican

it is just not ‘proof’.

Unless, as I said before, these folks just like to pull that nonsense on me.
