standard archival policy. the records of the papacy of Pope Pius Xii will most likely be released in 2008, 50 years after his death. that is the accepted procedure for records of public figures. It may take longer than 50 years for the preservation and cataloging necessary to make the records usable by researchers, but it would not be earlier than 50 years.
