This sounds good, but what about all the anathema’s from the counsel of Trent? I was just reading some of the Cannons and Decrees of the Council of Trent, and to me anyway, it sure doesn’t sound like (back then) they were too concerned about building bridges. It’s pretty much a one way street! So times have changed? But it’s my understanding that you can’t change these Cannons and Decrees. They are set in stone (so to speak).

I have to agree. I feel like I know what the Holy Father is going for, but Jesus went to His death RATHER THAN deny the Truth about Himself. The early Christians didn’t bend, they broke, and by breaking they upheld that same Truth and eventually converted the Empire.
To take his example, David didn’t kill Saul, true, but he did kill Goliath. Saul was jealous that the people said, “Saul has killed his thousands and David his ten thousands.” David didn’t build bridges with the Philistines.
It takes a lot to remember that the Pope is led by the Holy Spirit in a way that I am not. I have to assume since he is higher up that he has a better view of the field. This is probably a time to harvest and bring in the chaff with the wheat and not worry so much- the winnowing will occur later. IMHO
