Pope Francis dedicates his Sunday Angelus to the Gospel of the first Sunday of Lent on Christ’s temptation in the desert, “Jesus does not dialogue with Satan, as Eve did in the Garden of Eden . Jesus knows that there is no dialogue with Satan, because he is too cunning. This is why Jesus, instead of entering into a dialogue like Eve, chooses to take refuge in God’s Word and responds with the power of this Word. We should remember this when we are tempted”.

Jesus always answered with the Word of God and never with the traditions of man.
 
The only thing is, in order to defend yourself with the Word of God, you have to know the Word of God. There’s a lot more to it than just “Get thee behind me, Satan!”

Of course, because Jesus was the Word of God made man.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

And even one step further, one must live the Word of God. Admittedly, it isn’t always an easy thing to do.

1499 Satan gained nothing by tempting you, because you did not enter into conversation with him. Continue to act in this way. You gave Me great glory today by fighting so faithfully. Let it be confirmed and engraved on your heart that I am always with you, even if you don’t feel My presence at the time of battle.

OTOH, does anyone believe in Satan anymore?

Seems like Paul VI’s admonition about the “smoke of Satan” went pretty much unheeded.

You obviously don’t know what the Catholic Church means by the term “tradition.” When a Protestant uses the term “tradition” he typically means “rituals or ideas made up by people outside of the Bible that are developed over time.” When a Catholic uses the term “tradition” he means “the teachings of Jesus and the Apostles that weren’t written down in Scripture.”

Tradition isn’t made up over time. Sacred Tradition was sealed with the death of the last Apostle.

Jesus is the Word of God made flesh. Anything Jesus taught is, by definition, the Word of God. The teachings of Jesus that were written down by the Apostles are called Sacred Scripture. The teachings of Jesus that were not written down in Scripture are called “Sacred Tradition.”

So by definition, any teaching Jesus gave was the Word of God. Only some of it was written down.

Both Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition were sealed with the death of the last Apostle.

2 Thess 2:15 “15 So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold fast to the traditions we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by written letter.”
 
Honestly I wish the whole Church would do what the Pope suggests. I find no comfort in the dialogue we seem to be having with the homosexual, atheist, contracepting world. None. We step around saying “good on them” and don’t want to hurt their feelings or enter into a dialogue that is filled with lies and traps. Better to just stick with Jesus and the Gospel.

Because its too apocalyptic. It also ties into the 3rd Secret of Fatima and if there is one thing that unites Catholics of all persuasions its the repudiation that we could possibly be living in the end times. Its also why nobody ever talks about Akita (approved by Ratzinger) and LaSalette.

First of all, it isn’t “Revelations;” it is “The Revelation,” and second, can you point out where I was referring to Revelation? No, you can’t, because I wasn’t. It’s still debatable whether St. John wrote the Revelation, but if we assume he did, there are four other books/letters that are also attributed to him.

Then why have people in earlier times thought theirs were the end times? If they were wrong then, people could be wrong now.
