In his message for World Food Day, Benedict XVI says that developed countries “should be aware that the increasing demands of the world they require substantial levels of support.” Globalization and special interests, instead, push them to disregard the needs of “many brethren”.

I agree with the Pope. (Well, of course I agree with the Pope!)

It saddens me to see and hear about hunger.

It saddens me even more to see people going hungry in our city’s in front of restaurants that throw away food every day.

The problem is not enough food.

It’s just a matter of distribution.

Well said, more needs to be done to give people worldwide their basic material needs to live a healthy life.

I want to stress out a point though. Globally there is enough food to feed all of us, but food being a commodity is usually sold to the highest bidder. Undeveloped countries export food products to developed nations that pay more than local consumers, in return developed countries get cheap food products.

Workers on a dollar a day cannot afford this rise in food inflation due to a globalised market 😦

Imho, partly greed is to blame and we should all take responsiblity for it.
