The Vatican is investigating a Silver Spring-based umbrella group for nuns for deviating from Catholic doctrine after the group failed to toe the church’s line on male priesthood, homosexuality and salvation being chiefly obtained through the Catholic Church.

The Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR), encompassing some 1,500 leaders of the nation’s 63,032 nuns, is undergoing a “doctrinal assessment” overseen by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF), which safeguards church teachings.

Did you read the line where they claim the Church spends less time investigating pediophile priests than it does female religious orders??!!!
I read it and it is just a claim. It doesn’t mean it is true

Of course its not true-it is just another example of how those who disobey the Church always use the homosexual Priest scandal as their first line of defense.

I think their day or reckoning is coming despite the fact some bishops seem to me like they were not good protectors of the young…There is enough blame to go around, but this shouldn’t let these nuns off the hook…and I am not going to give some of the bishops a pass either

However we have many fine priest and bishops and there still are wonderful nuns…We have a mother house very near me that is a spinoff from another convent down south…they wear habits and are Dominican teachers…God bless them

My aunt was a Sister of Charity for over 50 years. I think most Nuns are wonderful.

If a nun does not understand why there are not female priest I do not know how she became a nun. Can men become nuns in this view? Christ did not come as a woman. He came as a man. That is why a man needs to be a priest. If you were making a movie would you have Jane Fonda play Pope John Paul II?

If they are the same bunch who took out ads questioning the Catholic stance on abortion they need to"go down."😦

Your post makes no sense. The equation is NOT man:priest::woman:nun. Monastic men aren’t nuns but monks. Depending on their order, their primary call is to live the monastic life under the vows (obedience, fidelity, conversion, poverty, chastity), the authority of the prior, and their holy rule, same as nuns. They become priests only if they have a co-vocation to priesthood at the service of their order.

I have not made a movie with Jane Fonda playing JPII. But I know that Mary Martin made a fine Peter Pan.

Their hypocrisy lies in the fact that they favor open homosexuality.

Mary might have made a great Peter Pan but these nuns are not the lost boys…even if they wish they were

Are they going to write down all the hetrodox things they find? If so, they’ll all have carpal tunnel syndrome by the time they’re done.

Fascinating info out there about the break by orthodox nuns with this group. I went to the website and made the decision future gifts would go to members of the orthodox groups, even though it means cutting off the communities in my past. Apparently the LCWR they’ve backed off of their vocal demand for women priests, despite the rantings of some militant feminista (sadly a graduate of my Alma Mater) possibly due to the fact the public rebuke to JP was not well received, and prognostication that there would be women priests by 2000, not only didn’t take place, but the Vatican has reinforced its stand on the illegitimacy of female priests. The whole abortion thing is beyond belief. Any nun signing on to this, IMHO, should be publicly excommunicated.

Please keep these nuns and sisters in prayer. Many may seem disillusioned, but keep all in prayer daily.

Who was it who said “listening to nuns’ confessions is like being stoned to death by popcorn”?I shudder to think what he would think of the “pagan” nuns of today. They are a disgrace and there MUST be a purge.

The hierarchy will get no pass from me regarding their response, and previous decades’ absence of it, to priestly pedophilia. It’s inexcusable from any secular or religious perspective. Any secular organization that did that for so long would be shut down. Nevertheless, that situation is a separate issue and unrelated to this investigation.

It’s interesting what some people focus on. I’m far less worked up about whether all of their statements about moral theology are “officially” in line, than their statement that Jesus “is not the only son of God.” I’d be way more concerned about that piece of essential dogma.
