Jesus said that we can’t serve two masters. The priest was given a chance and apparently made the wrong choice. I hope he realizes his error and repents.

Correct. The whole reason for excommunication is to bring one to his senses, not to cut him off from the Church forever. But agreed, no matter how innocent and noble the Freemasons at the lower level are, they are still tied to the larger organization that works actively against the Church. When some at the top hold allegiance to Lucifer, common sense should tell you that being tied to the organization at all would have an unfavorable spiritual influence. Spiritual influences are real, they kind of radiate out like the waves on the ocean.

Being born and raised in the old South, before the influx of my Northern brothers, I have seen the power and influence of the Lodge(masonic) my entire life. It is pervasive and still exists today in most Southern states. While your average mason may not prescribe to the ideology attributed to masonic teachings, the leadership does. And there is a definite methodology behind their actions. Being a member of the local Lodge was/is your ticket to advance in most businesses and professions, especially in the Police, Fire, EMS and civil government. As a Catholic it has been very apparent to me how this system works and it is only now changing due to the influx of Catholics from up North. But in the smaller towns, this rule still stands. You do not want to run afoul of the local Lodge. And a Catholic who believes the teachings and admonishments of The Church is seen as a threat.
Does this remind anyone of the KKK?

Lumping people in and suggesting that we all need to change our actions and responses as a result of one person who did something stupid and violent is also unwarranted and offensive

Hope that equally applies to Freemasonry my friend. Lets not lump everyone in the same group.

Have a blessed day. Thank you for your veiled attempt at deriding the converstion. It didnt work and wont work.
First I’d heard of a deranged man attacking a choir. It should be glaringly obvious that we don’t condone that kind of attack on anyone. So glad you’re around to point out the obvious.

As to the OP: Good. Glad to see we’re cleaning house with a vengeance.

Several weeks ago a deranged man attacked the choir in a Catholic Church in Albuquerque NM. The reason he stated after his arrest was that he thought the choir director was a Freemason.
. . . .

My question for the forum is why wasn’t this act denounced?
Is this the manner we choose to address this issue?
Because some things just go without saying. No (sane) person would seriously think that any Catholic would condone such an attack, whether or not the choir leader was actually a Mason. The attacker was obviously mentally deranged and delusional, and will be dealt with by the legal and/or mental system. There’s nothing more to add.
Can. 1374. A person who joins an association which plots against the Church is to be punished with a just penalty; one who promotes or takes office in such an association is to be punished with an interdict.

This particular code was changed in 1983 to preclude mention of the Masonic order. That understandably brought about some confusion among the faithful concerning the affiliations with Freemasonry.

I fully and totally agree with the wording but no mention of Freemason is implied or specified. Pope JP II nor Pope Benedict XVI changed the Code of Canon Law to specify Freemasonry again. So if an individual who is a member or the local lodge never experiences or witnessed any plot against the Roman Catholic Church then is the individual obligated to renounce their membership?
And that’s part of the confusion with a lot of post Vatican II documents. Pre-Vatican II, most things were spelled out clearly: Can’t join the Masons. Can’t eat meat on Friday. And so on. Post-Vatican II, most things are spelled out vaguely: Masons no longer mentioned by name. If you’re going to eat meat on Friday, you’re supposed to make an alternative act of penance. Etc. In other words - pre-VII = black and white, and post-VII = grey.

It should be noted that the Friday penance/abstinence legislation was (a) not a direct result of Vatican II, but came about years later, and (b) only in the United States and some other regions whose episcopal conferences had published decrees. Universal Canon Law is still clear that every Friday of the year is a day of penance and abstinence from flesh meat.

What is the leadership? What constitutes the leadership that you are referring to? I know several Masons that are in positions but not sure if that’s considered leadership.
The leadership is the higher up you go in the order. Also known as the Shriner’s which is the highest one can be in the masons. The lower masons or the one’s that just started in the order is almost 95% of the time just sucked in to something that appears or seems as something that is good. This is how they build up their army. Only the one’s that are in the higher ranks or the leaders are aware of the knowledge and what they are doing to destroy the Catholic Church. They use the lower degree masons to make themselves shine. But their light is not of God but of Satan whom they worship or the Goat of Mendez. Even Christ fore told this in Scripture, " The sheep will be placed on His Right and the goats will be placed on His Left." Also “Beware of wolves in sheeps clothing.” God Bless!

This is exactly what John Salza (Catholic-former mason) says in the EWTN videoseries the abundant life. You can youtube it.

Miguel, not that many years ago the white sheets and the Red Fez were synonymous. And the local evangelical Churches were well represented at the lodge as well.
And please do not think this was just a southern issue. I have traveled extensively and found the same groups and ideology all across the US. Same attitude, same network, north, south, east and west.

Not surprising. Then how does a person understand the factions behind the US Civil War?

The main problem with Masonry is its indifferentism. Even if they did not take part in any revolutions, the indifferentism as defined by Holy Mother Church is enough to be incompatible with Catholicism.

It’s like being a member of the CPUSA. Just because they don’t adovcate armed revolution doesn’t mean that their other doctrines are compatible with Catholicism.

I am a third degree Knight of Columbas and have seen how the Masons infiltrait Our Beloved Catholic Church first hand. I was also a state officer in the Knights and the results are overwhelming how many there are in the Church. We tried to rid these but were overpowered b/c they were in the state and supreme offices as well. Just gotta Pray! That is the only way to defeat them. And pray that they see the light of God and repent! God Bless!

Most think the Civil War was fought over slavery. WRONG!!! The South left the North and had most of the assets the North wanted. Slavery was only an issue. Even if the South would have won I believe in my heart Slavery would have died. The issues were more political and religous than people realize. Ever wondered why the border between the North and South is called the Mason / Dixin Line? LOL! Search the answer on this and one will be shocked and realize the cover up for so many years. I just wish and pray that All God’s children open their eyes before we have to go through this again…God forbid! And Please God Bless the United States of America!!!

I was surprised a few weeks ago to see a man in the front row at mass wearing a Shriner jacket advertising the local lodge.:hmmm:

It may have been one of many issues, but from reading the various secessionist states’ declarations it is clear that their main concern was the protection of slavery, and their main fear that the federal government under Lincoln would not protect the institution.

I did a search to see if somehow the answer had changed since I learned about this in school, but I’m not sure why an 18th century survey is shocking.🤷 Perhaps we could discuss this on a Back Fence thread, since it’s a bit off-topic from the recent Vatican action.

That’s my understanding. We also know Lincoln didn’t want it spreading into other territories or states. My question about factions was intended to probe a split within the lodge. Can the US Civil War be seen as a split within the lodge?

I am a 4th degree K of C and I haven’t ever seen Masonic influence in any aspect of the KC. Maybe I just don’t look hard enough at it or maybe it doesn’t exist or possibly its inconsequential.
Seems like the KC is continuing to do good work and serve the Church so I am betting that any Masonic influence is negligible.

Why would a Priest want to be a Freemason while maintaining membership in the Catholic Church? You might as well join Planned Parenthood.

I was a State officer and it is well hidden but every now and then something would happen that a Priest would be threatened or spoken ill behind his back or even by another Church runned out b/c he called sin, “Sin”. The Priest have spoken out but only mentioned them as secular groups. As a Knight we are to stand by our Priest and we saw the true hatred of the devil attack our beloved Priest. I personally was shocked. I do hope this Pope will clean house as we so need. If he can’t the next one that can is the Almighty God. The heart of the KCs is awesome and does wonders for the comunity but we still need to beware of wolves in Sheeps clothing. God Bless!

A priest being threatened or spoken ill of is a masonic trait? I know a lot of devout Catholics that do this and they are clearly anti-masonic.
I am not entirely sure that what you are seeing can be attributed to a particular group or club.
Maybe when he used the term “secular” he was referring to the KC council?

Beg to differ we were close to our Priest and the guy was arrested and turned out to be a Shriner. The highest order in the Masons. This is not a topic I chose to entertain any more I know the truth and so do the parishoners. We know the truth and why do you speak ill of the KC council? I will pray for you with your judgments. God Bless!
