“We are shocked by this new manifestation of maddening, terrorist violence and hatred which we condemn in the most radical way together with the Pope and all those who love peace,” Holy See press office director Fr. Federico Lombardi said in a statement.

“We pray for the victims and the wounded, and for all the French people. This is an attack on peace for all humanity, and it requires a decisive, supportive response on the part of all of us as we counter the spread the homicidal hatred in all of its forms.”

Numerous attacks across the city of Paris were reported on the evening of Nov. 13. Explosions were reported near the Stade de France, the national stadium where a soccer match was underway. Shootings were reported in the area of the famous Louvre museum and the nearby Les Halles shopping mall, as well as Le Petit Cambodge restaurant.

In addition, dozens of hostages were reportedly held at Bataclan concert hall. French police stormed the concert hall and later declared the hostage situation over, saying that they had killed two attackers. AFP quoted police sources saying about 100 people had been killed in the concert venue.

Amid the violence, French President Francois Hollande announced a state of emergency throughout the entire country and said that the nation’s borders would be closed.

Global leaders from U.S. president Barack Obama to British prime minister David Cameron, as well heads of state from around the world expressed outrage and sadness over the grisly attacks.

Church leaders also voiced their solidarity with the victims and their families. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops urged prayer for all involved, with individual bishops posting their reactions via social media.

“May St. Denis and Our Lady of Lourdes intercede tonight for the people of Paris,” Bishop James Conley of Lincoln, Nebraska said on Twitter.

“My prayers are with the people of Paris tonight. Let us pray for the victims, the hostages, and their families,” said Bishop Frank Caggiano of Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Bishop Kevin Farrell of Dallas and Bishop Michael Olson of Fort Worth also voiced prayers on Twitter.

I wish the Pope would cancel his trip to Africa. the French troops have warned they cannot guarantee the Holy Father’s safety. Maybe after what has happened in Paris will make him reconsider.
The whole world is wanting an end to terrorism.

Maybe the Pope will stop supporting the poor innocent mudslims -]immigrants /-] refugees because of this attack.

He won’t. Innocent persons are suffering right now. All kinds of innocent persons in the hands of evil and madness.

I believe and hope so.
This is from March, not precisely for this event, but I did and do pray for him with all my heart. Sharing with you,Sorrows. I love this Pope so much…

Some were concerned after hearing the news on television about “fanatics who want to kill you”. Francis responded by saying that “life is in God’s hands. I said to the Lord: You take care of me. But if it is your will that I should die or that someone should do something to me, I ask you only this: that it won’t hurt.”

Yeah probably not. But image how great a mosque the Sistine Chapel will be!

This is TERRIBLE news, but the French have
been clamping down on the Islamics for some
time now, maybe this is a warning of some
sort. May God have mercy on those victims of
this massacre and ALSO for those who b/c of
their zeal have become MURDERERS of
the innocent.

Demonize them and add to the ranks of the terrorists. The world needs to respond decisively and with extreme resolve to eliminate the terrorists, but still keep any ‘colateral’ damage to a minimum.

I wish I knew a good solution, but I don’t. More than ever in the history of the world, prayer is needed…and answers!

I read an article that puts a lot of the blame for this paris deal right at the feet of the pope and the leaders of the eu. America wake! This is so upsetting, Pope francis is basically encouraging obamas poor policy. Sickening!

Why, why, why?? Why can’t all get along? Do you think the US will intervene in someway? And if we do, how? I don’t see how we can spare Soldiers.

God in Heaven have mercy on US, The Holy See, Rome, France, and all that have terrorism among them.

I heard it was going to get worse, worse, worse. Prayer in unison is what we need.

Love, hugs and prayers,
Sheila

Is it Pope Francis’s job to lead his church and the rest of the world, including America, to annihilation? I didn’t say he was responcible for Obama, but, his words and deeds regarding many issues is in lock step with him. I don’t know where you are from, but, I bet your political landscape is at least as bad. With all due respect.

Unfortunately, clamping down, after the barn door was opened,Let this be a strong message for thevUSA,to stop with the namby pamby border security,PC mentality. We need to be a strong force against this evil or will will be dealing with the same scenarios as what happened yesterday. We have already forgotten the devastation of 9/11 in many ways. Not to mention Boston a few years back.😔

It is reassuring to see the comments of those from outside the U.S. who more clearly see this for what it is, a division of the political conservative and liberal that has become a division within the U.S. Church.

Pope Francis is the Earthly leader of the Church, the continual attempts to keep pushing the US paradigm on top of him are not helpful. Pope Francis is not responsible for your President’s politics and the whole world cannot and should not be viewed through the lens of conservative vs liberals that characterises what seems to be an increasingly ugly American political landscape.
To say America must wake up is hardly trying to “push” the US paradigm on the Holy Father from among our ugly American political landscape, I’d call that healthy discourse. Such remarks do not appear to me to advance civil discussion.
