Fatah’s Double-Talk

The conflicting messages coming from Fatah cast serious doubts about the faction’s true intentions. Moreover, these messages create the impression that there is not much of a difference between the Western-backed Fatah and Hamas.

Fatah’s double-talk is not a new phenomenon. Anyone who speaks Arabic and English can easily notice the conflicting messages made by the faction’s leaders and representatives. Fatah’s strategy has always been to tell the outside world one thing and Palestinians a completely different thing.

Perhaps the most disturbing statement, however, came from Abbas Zaki, who is also a senior member of the Fatah Central Committee and the former PLO ambassador to Lebanon. On the same day that Mahmoud Abbas delivered his speech at the UN on September 23, Zaki declared on Al-Jazeera that** “the greater goal cannot be accomplished in one go…If Israel withdraws from Jerusalem, evacuates the 650,000 settlers and dismantles the wall, what will become of Israel: It will come to an end. If we say that we want to eliminate Israel, it’s not acceptable to say this. Don’t say these things to the world. Keep it to yourself.”**

So while the Palestinian president was telling the world that the Palestinians support the two-state solution, one of his representatives was telling Palestinians and the Arab world that Fatah has not given up its dream of destroying the Jewish state.

He essentially told the Palestinians, to keep their mouths shut about wiping out Israel which doesn’t serve the negotiation process. In that same speech, he also said that the elimination of Israel was not possible.

“If Israel withdraws from Jerusalem, and evacuates the 650,000 settlers, and dismantles the wall - what will become of Israel? (he projects ->) It will come to an end.” (which is their greater goal that can’t happen in one go)

The destruction of Israel is what they want, which is why they won’t recognize the Jewish state of Israel. Which is also the reason why they are attempting a backdoor strategy seeking full membership in UNESCO.

I fail to see any signs for peace in the future.
 
Why do I have trouble believing that Zaki said those things to Al-Jazeera, then added “don’t say these things to the world”? To speak to Al-Jazeera this way is to speak to the world, of course. It is widely heard by friend and foe alike.

Did he say Jerusalem, for example, or East Jerusalem? Obviously moving 650,000 settlers isn't the end of Israel. While I believe that figure is a bit high, why did Israel deliberately settle several hundred thousand people on the West Bank if she really has any interest in a two-state solution? As to the wall, some of it was built on on territory that should be included in a new Palestinian state, some of it divides farmers from their crops, etc. As far as I'm concerned a just wall can remain, but with adjustments.

There is an enormous amount of propaganda tossed around by all sides. I would want to see the precise text correctly translated into English and not depend upon a source hostile to the Palestinians. There is something unreal about the quote as quoted.

 This nonsense between the Israelis and the Palestinians has gone on too long. Just today I was reading (again) that the Vatican favors a two-state solution. The world has waited so long for this problem to be solved, and as long as it festers the terrorists nd other enemies of the US benefit. Why can't people see that? Gen. Patreaus saw it clearly. This blindness is frustrating to those of us who want to preserve Israel while gaining justice for the Palestinians. Both goals can be achieved if the US insists upon it. It helps no one to peddle propaganda designed to heighten suspicion and undermine efforts to achieve peace and harmony in the Holy Land.  

 God bless Israel and the Palestinians. May they dwell together in peace and mutual respect. This continuing hostility has been very injurious to Christians in that part of the world. Between the Israeli occupiers and the Muslim radicals Christians are being squeezed out. Peace between Israel and the Palestinians would help them enormously.

I didn’t use Google translate. I am still studying Hebrew, and still have a few troubles with the various forms of verbs and nouns:o

Hebrew is still a worth while language to know 🙂 And a fellow has already translated it. I just wanted to make a point, I am still a bit of a Jew.

Don’t get me wrong, I would love to learn Hebrew, if only to converse with our LORD in my real voice once it’s working in the eternal life:)

Still, right now I am struggling in NT Greek, so it was more practical just to ask.

This idea that one group is favored by God over the others is, in my mind, contrary to the basic focus of Christ.

 One example is the parable of the Good Samaritan. The Samaritans were despised by the Jews. They had intermarried, had developed a different form of religion, focusing on Mount Gerizim rather than Jerusalem. There are still Samaritans practicing that faith at Nablus and elsewhere. 

 Anyway, the priest and the Levite 'passed by on the other side'. The Samaritan risked his own life, gave of his own resources, to help the man who had been robbed and lay dying by the road. 

 This, to me, shows that Christ was rejecting even priests and Levites who showed no compassion while lauding a hated Samaritan who stopped and attended to the victim. So, Jesus (God) did not favor the Jews but people of whatever faith who did his will. Too many well-intentioned people are believers in Christ but don't become his followers. We are not saved by our doctrines or church affiliation but by a simple faith in Christ expressed through  'living for Jesus' and seeking to serve him in our daily walk.

While that is true, the Jews and Samaritans were not actively killing each other at the time of our LORD, nor did either seek to push the others out.

While the Arabs probably need a state of their own, it is only Israel that has maintained religious access for everybody in East Jerusalem. When EJ was part of Jordan, Jews had no access to the wall. And I’m not optimistic about Christian access to the Holy Sepulcher (or Bethlehem) once these areas lie within a Muslim country.
