NoHome… The thing you also have to consider here is the % of females raped by their coaches and teachers, bosses and co-workers. Yes, hetrosexual rape and abuse exist… and it is wrong, but to be quite honest, I trust my priest over my high school teacher that did abuse me. Not to mention the job I never started because my interviewer never looked me in the face once during the interview.

Here is a website to ponder as well…

Not that I think any group is more accountable than clergy… but I would rather belong to a Church where they are willing to suspend pending an investigation than some other Church with no accountability to anyone else!

If the investigation concludes that someone has acted inappropriately, I would be the first one to turn them over to the law to prosecute and impose sanctions if it were in my power. We have to let them do their jobs and see the results of the investigation. Everyone deserves to have their day…so to speak.

We also have an obligation to pray that they seek repentance!
Your post is all well and good, but non sequitur. This thread was about a homosexual suspended from the Vatican. It shifted into the abuse scandal and someone challenged the notion of females being raped by clergy.

Yes, there are many good priests, but ALL clergy that abuse children, male or female, demonstrate that they are unfit for their duties and must be removed. End of story.

It is fact that for every ALLEGATION (not necessarily proof) of abuse by a Priest or Brother, there are 12 Convictions of abuse by an employee of the Public School Board in the U.S.

If true (a cite would be useful), it doesn’t prove much until we know how many public school employees there are compared with how many priests. If there are six times as many public school employees as priests and brothers, then one is only half as likely to be abused by a priest or brother. If there are 24 times as many public school employees, then one is twice as likely to be abused by a priest/brother compared with a school employee. This is of course ignoring the differences between allegations and convictions, but it shows those numbers are meaningless without more numbers to reference them to.

Now, getting back to the topic of the thread, there is new news about this story…
The Vatican was last night at the centre of an unusually public sex scandal after acknowledging it had suspended a senior official who was filmed apparently propositioning a young man in his office.
Monsignor Tommaso Stenico, a capo ufficio, or section head, at the Vatican ministry responsible for the clergy, insisted yesterday he was not gay. He said he had posed as a homosexual to research a plot by satanists…
[The young man visiting Stenico] was invited to have sado-masochistic sex and arrangements were made for a meeting in St Peter’s Square. Unknown to the older man, the other man, who said he wanted to expose the hypocrisy of the Catholic church, arrived equipped with concealed video and audio recording equipment.

Sort of sounds like Monsignor Stenico has the same publicist as Idaho Senator Larry Craig. It will be a dead giveaway if he starts making comments about the “wide stance” he uses in the confessional. 😃

Sort of like pointing out all the other speeders to a highway patrol as they write you a citation.

Some details about that undercover video are coming out. Stenico called the young man “cute” and “tasty” and became really irritated with the undercover man when he kept asking Stenico how he could violate the Church’s rules. Can hardly wait to hear Stenico has been defrocked.

I’m sure he will say again that he is not gay and that the “tasty” comment come from his being a canibal. 😉

It turns out that the priest is claiming that he was doing a psychiatric study of men with same sex attraction.

I am not sure what is more disturbing:
  1. A priest who is tormented with same sex attraction which leads to a double life.
  2. A priest who lies doing his own “study” on unfortunate men who have same sex attraction. He does not get informed consent. He lies to these men by talking the talk.
I personally have much more sympathy for the priest with same sex attraction. This addiction must be terribly hard to break.

I have less sympathy for a manipulative priest who would lie to those in sin for his own hobby; doing his own research on these men.

It seems that either way this priest needs our prayer and help.

Selective prosecution is a more accurate term. I bring it up not because I am guilty of anything but I hate to see the truth take a back seat.

Regardless of stats in other sectors, I pefer to make no excuses for the Church. Her leadership allowed, even facilitated abuse of children.

Of course, I’m sure God will have something to say about the whole mess too. Sure hate to be in their shoes on the day of judgement.

One thing after another. Sigh… Satan is winning this battle at the moment. 😦 Keep The Holy Father at the front of your intentions for a while. He will need a lot of prayer warriors.:gopray2: Very distressing, but we have to keep reminding ourselves that as Fr. Corapi says: “He might win a battle or two but we are assured who will win the war.”😉

We’ll see if this actually happens…

*Suspended priest threatens to expose Vatican homosexual network

Rome, Oct. 22, 2007 (CWNews.com) - An Italian priest who was suspended from his post in the Roman Curia last week has claimed that he has a list of active homosexuals working at the Vatican.

Msgr. Tommaso Stenico was removed from his duties at the Congregation for Clergy after the Italian La7 television network showed a videotape in which he propositioned a young man. Although the priest’s face was obscured in the video, Vatican officials were able to identify his voice and his office, in which the video was surreptitiously recorded.

Msgr. Stenico did not deny that he was the priest caught on the videotape. He offered the claim that he was investigating the influence of a homosexual network around the Vatican.

Now, in a conversation with Italy’s Panorama magazine, the disgraced cleric has pushed his claim further, saying that he has a “dossier” on the homosexual network and the priests involved. That information, he said, should make the Vatican “tremble.” *

Release it!

This could well be what the Divine Doctor ordered.

One must wonder why he would be in possession of such a list without his spiritual father’s knowledge to attest for him of his purposes for it.

MacCarthy had a list also, if I recall correctly. If he has one bring on.

Shemp #50 makes a good point that I haven’t heard others make: the Msgr.'s alibi is itself not just unlikely but gravely immoral and scandalous. It seems to me that some people reacting to this unfortunate event, even people who should know better, imply that if the pope or some cardinal had given him permission, he could have licitly hit on, told lies to, and generally given a horrendous counter-witness to this young man, all for the sake of catching the “real” bad guys.
I don’t understand how any Catholic could imagine such a thing. Above all, the fact that Stenico thinks we’ll buy it seems to indicate a serious darkening of the intellect…
Let’s pray for these sad people and for all those who have to deal with this awful situation, especially our Holy Father.
