Dear Friends,

The Franciscan Friars Capuchin Minor have communicated that Cardinal Jose Saraiva Martins, Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, will officiate at the Eucharistic celebration which will open public veneration of the relics of Saint Pio on April 24th.

They have further communicated that no claim is being made at present that the remains of Saint Pio underwent other than what would be considered normal corruption. Previous posts to that effect were overzealous and unmerited. Further information will be forthcoming.

Official information about Saint Pio and upcoming information about the internet broadcasts of these special events is available at:

www.teleradiopadrepio.it - Italian language only - internet and satellite broadcasts in North America

www.padrepio.it - official website of the Franciscan Friars Capuchin Minor in Italy

www.vocedipadrepio.com - offficial information and materials about Saint Pio.

I sincerely apoligize for any confusion that previous posts may have caused. Thank you.

Dear Friends,

The Franciscan Friars Capuchin Minor of the Province of the Holy Angel and Saint Pio have indicated to me that His Eminence Monsignor Domenico Umberto D’Ambrosio, Archbishop of Manfredonia has issued a public statement on Italian television to clarify all the misunderstandings regarding the recent exhumation and the condition of the mortal remains of Saint Padre Pio.

In order to counter the effects of the misleading information which has been disseminated, the Archibishop has insisted that there is nothing that suggests that these remains are in any way to be considered as incorrupt. Upon his death, the body of Padre Pio was treated with formalin, and there is nothing apparent that would indicate that the current state of the remains cannot be attributed to that fact alone. As previously indicated, humidity and moisture in the coffin of the Saint did cause significant damage.

The relic body is being prepared by morticians for public veneration.

The Eucharistic Celebration and veneration of the relic body of Padre Pio is scheduled to begin as noted by the Capuchin Friars on April 24th.

I deeply regret if my excess of zeal has caused any confusion with regard to this matter.

My previous posts for official information and internet broadcasts are valid.

Yours sincerely,
Richard Tasca

Dear friends,

The Franciscan Friars Capuchin Minor of the Province of Sant’Angelo e San Pio in Italy have recently posted these public announcements through their official portals.

"Ostensione e venerazione di corpo di San Pio of Pieltrelcina"

This is translated as “Presentation and exposition of the relics of Saint Pio for the veneration of the cult of the faithful”.

This will occur at the Church of Saint Pio in San Giovanni Rotondo, Italy on the morning of April 24th. His Eminence Cardinal Jose Saraivo Martins will preside at the 11 a.m. Eucharistic Celebration which will inaugurate the exposition of the relic body of Saint Pio. The body will be visible through a glass enclosure. This solemn public exposition and veneration will last through the 40th anniversary of Saint Pio’s death which is on September 28th.

The Franciscans have kindly now posted instructions for pilgrims who will be attending. Tickets are required and can be obtained at various locations in San Giovanni Rotondo including the hotels.
These instructions are available in Italian language only at this link:

Pilgrims from the United States who wish to attend should contact the National Center for Padre Pio in Barto, Pennsylvania for further information:

They are arranging tours for devotees of Saint Pio

The Capuchins have indicated to me that there is at present no judgement as to the incorruption of these remains. That judgement will be made by the Vatican’s Congregation for the Causes of Saints. Holy Mother Church generally moves slowly on matters such as these. But we all anxiously and prayerfully await Her determination.

Sincerely,
Richard Tasca
