Vatican to Meet with SSPX; Final Reconciliation Offer Due

what an awfull article. done to denigrate the SSPX. I hope they come into the Church soon. I love them and their faithfulness to the Holy Mass.

Howso? It was fairly general and not too informative, but I wouldn’t call it bad.
 
The article was about what one would expect from a mainstream, non-religious-press source. I would not call it 'what an awfull article. done to denigrate the SSPX." I think it was done to cover news and it took some shortcuts in describing the division that also reflect badly on the SSPX (e.g. “ultra-traditionalists”). Plus the photo is not beneficial. To me it fits the pattern of an article in the secular press done by a writer who has limited knowledge and who is under a deadline.
 
It seems to me that if we can have bishops who dissent on all sorts of liberal positions, it might be fair to allow bishops who dissent on issues to do with religious freedom, which as I understand are the main point of doctrinal dispute with the SSPX. If the church is being more open to dissent now, it should go both ways.

As long as they accept that Vatican II could somehow be interpreted and accepted as a real ecumenical council (+Lefebvre did after all sign the documents), it seems to me that this should be enough.

I agree that acknowledging Vatican II will be required – the Church will have to decide if that would be enough or not. Unfortunately, my understanding was that the recent doctrinal discussions ended without the SSPX moving any closer to acknowledging the authority of Vatican II. There was a thread discussing the details in the Traditional Catholicism forum.

I have no use for such schismatics and find their “faithfulness to Mass” to be fraudulent. They are all about themselves and want to Church to come around to their false position, not to return to the fold. I agree wholeheartedly with you, TMC, and think that their prideful attitude wll be their downfall. :mad:
 
I wish I could write them a letter telling how much I love them and for them to trust in the Lord and in the holy father.

Rich, is what they did worse than what the Church of England (Henry VIII et al) did against the Church confiscating all Catholic Church property and mocking the Council of Trent and Vatican I in the process? Yet the Church has managed to welcome Anglicans in all countries, and even enabled them to keep their traditional (married priests, etc.) ways. So why not the FSSPX?

Because the Anglicans who convert are also assenting to the Faith, including what has been taught post-Vatican II.

You could actually say that Anglicans coming home (especially the Ordinariate) is one of the successes of ecumenism that was a fruit of Vatican II. The SSPX (from what I understand) would call that (ecumenism) near-heretical.

If they want to keep using the EF, they are absolutely allowed to. That has been made clear for a few years now. So what are they waiting for then? Rich seems to be correct, the SSPX is hoping that the Vatican will assent to the rest of their doctrinal positions, when of course what needs to happen is for the SSPX to assent to what the Vatican teaches.
