Hahaha oh please. I’ve known hundreds of Yoga practitioners at this point,

Some of whom have worked miracles sure; if you are on about correcting postural problems, rehabilitation and a whole host of other positive things.

Yoga has very real benefits to daily life, skeletal alignment and more.

Practitioners tend to be focused, well disciplined and in good physical shape. Things which should be goals. Not things hailed as demonic with brash generalisation.

Should be obvious to even a 5 year old the difference between some sort of bizarre ritual and yoga practise for health and medical care.

Whatever this person is smoking, i think I’ll avoid it ta.

You make reference to an article from Wikipedia on Father Amorth. This assertion that the wikipedia makes has no citation at all, so therefore has no real basis other than the word of some anonymous person that has contributed to the wikipedia article.

In any case, we are going a bit off topic in discussing Fr. Amorth’s credentials or his official title specifically.

This article from “The Messenger of St. Anthony” written by Renzo Allegri in 2003 describes Fr. Amorth simply as the leader of Rome’s six exorcists.

Appointed to the task or office by Cardinal Poletti in 1986, Fr. Amorth first served as assistant exorcist to Fr. Candido Amantini.

I was just being cheeky (and actually referring to the post you were replying to.) I agree with your post. From my perspective, I have to really wonder if any minds are changed in threads on yoga at CAF. I know people generally mean well on either side, or I will at least give them the benefit of the doubt , but yoga threads have some similarities to modesty threads.
That was how I read you first, then I thought I would clarify just in case. Thank you!

So true about modesty threads! Hahaha!!! Very, very similar reactions. People have strong opinions, myself included, and no one seems to budge much.

I noticed you mentioned a B16 document from 1999 and so went looking around for it. (I haven’t read this entire thread so hope I’m not being redundant…)

It was never officially translated into English, but an informal translation can be found below in the Red text…
I cannot find this verified as the Pope’s words anywhere, but it seems plausible.

Which is why I posted the link to the Italian text, side by side with the English translation.

Good article. It looks worth the read for those into Franciscan studies.

Lets try to stay out of the myth and into the science. Let’s stick with facts rather than opinions.

The results of this 3-month pre-post study indicate that participation in this yoga and meditation retreat was associated with alterations in psychological functioning, neurotrophic pathways, HPA axis activity, and inflammatory pathway signaling suggesting enhanced stress resilience and well-being.

Of 13 studies reviewed, all indicate that yoga may decrease fall risk and improve sleep quality.
https://ajot.aota.org/article.aspx?articleid=2636442

Participants who completed yoga or meditation program in prison experienced a small increase in their psychological well-being (Cohen’s d = 0.46, 95% confidence interval [CI] = [0.39, 0.54]) and a small improvement in their behavioural functioning (Cohen’s d = 0.30, 95% CI = [0.20, 0.40]).

This research supports the practice of bi-weekly yoga sessions as beneficial in decreasing musculoskeletal pain in dental hygiene students

The review demonstrates significant improvement due to yoga practice in the primary outcome measures such as blood glucose levels along with secondary outcome measures such as cardiac autonomic variables, lipid profile, liver enzymes, respiratory variables, quality of life, anxiety and depression. Thus yoga has not only been found to be beneficial for improved glycaemic control, but also for the wide variety of symptoms associated with the diabetes.

You speak of him as if he’s a liar, as if he makes this stuff up, just so he can scare people away from a harmless novel. Why, because he says negative things about a book you like?

Maybe he’s actually on to something. Ripperger is a respected, intelligent, and experienced exorcist. He’s the professional in this situation, with much more access to information than the general public.

You should really look past your biases.

Using blanket statements in the manner of “yoga is the devils work” is concerning to me in the same fashion. What kind of yoga were these people practicing, for how long, did they pick it up on their own or go to classes? And, most importantly, what else were they in to beyond yoga? Occasional recreational drug use, maybe mushrooms or even peyote? Visit “shamans”? I used to be involved in stuff like this so I can’t just take those sort of statements at face value.

As far as I can tell, which most everyone knows already, when one really does get into the deeper spiritual aspects of yoga, it becomes much more dangerous from a Christian spiritual standpoint.

I can’t really say how much of a spiritual tone, if any, can be found in the various yoga salons since I don’t frequent them myself. 🤔 I would think they probably vary quite a bit.

As far as Harry Potter goes, I think the potential danger that could exist is for some persons who are attracted by the practice of magic in the books and wish to start trying it out for themselves.

My good friend Gertabelle, who has actually read the books says this…

Harry Potter. Sin or no? Moral Theology
scream
Have you even read the books?! The books do indeed become increasingly dark. As evil forces gain strength, good people have to make hard choices, and some of them are killed for standing against those who would spread that evil. Violent? Hardly. I’ve read Lord of the Rings – that was a violent series of books. I didn’t enjoy reading about literal heads rolling. As far as being amoral, you couldn’t be further off the mark. They are incredibly moral stories. Each of the main good cha…

In relation to this thread title, has there ever been a documented case of possession cased by yoga? All I have seen are good, positive and healthy outcomes from yoga.

Right. I do yoga regularly. Have done for 15, 20 years, something like that. It has many benefits. I understand that yoga has a spritual, religious element (I’ve known this since I was a child) and I have had many yoga instructors, a few ‘traditionalists’ many more very Western. I think they have all been American, fitness enthusiasts. I take yoga classes at my gym. It is not religious in any way - though I do pray to Jesus Christ sometimes.

I see this response to yoga - that it is satanic - as borderline hysterical. I do agree that an individual focusing on yoga as a means to God or happiness in a spiritual way is wrong, the same way people use money or drugs or drink or sex or entertainment or shopping or social media etc. to find a source of happiness outside of God is wrong; I don’t do that. Sometimes I wish me and my yoga were more interesting, more horrifying if you will - to justify this bizarre angst you see in these threads. So it is not such a waste of energy, emotion.

I think most Catholics are not harmed by Yoga in any spiritual sense because they seek nothing spiritual in it. For those Catholics who are more or less solid in their faith, I think it protects them from harm, for the most part, if not completely.

It’s the people who truly are searching for something spiritual in yoga that darker elements can come into play.

I’ve only read a little of this article so far, but I thought it somewhat interesting. It gives an account of a person who took yoga as not just exercise but a spiritual search or quest that it was originally intended to be and what unfolded for her…
