I occasionally will quickly make a sandwich with butter, marmite and chips (especially when I need salt)

Though prefer sour cream or salt flavoured chips over salt and vinegar .

Coincidentally, my son (who is as fad-curious as anyone) bought some impossible patties, which we prepared last night (as bacon cheeseburgers šŸ” No vegan fanaticism here). They cooked up a little weird, but were okay. (Out of curiosity I had one once in a restaurant too)

On the whole, I concur with several posters above: Sometimes I enjoy a hamburger; sometimes I enjoy an alternative (black bean, portobello, et cetera) because I enjoy the taste of those alternatives. If I am in a mood to enjoy the taste of beef, Iā€™d rather order a beef burger than something built in a lab.

Why Do We Do Penance for Lent? The Two Big Reasons

Penance simply means the repentance of sins by taking some form of action in reparation for that sin. Just as we sinned by actually committing or omitting something we shouldnā€™t have, so we should do penance by actually committing or omittingā€¦

Choose something that will help you grow in virtue: Our model for Lent is Jesus who endured the wilderness for 40 days while denying his bodily appetites. When we choose a Lenten penance, we should choose something worthy and something that will help us to rely on grace to accomplish, so that we will be closer to the heart of Jesus Christ by Easter than we were at the start of Lent.
I guess I misunderstood. I was under the impression the thread was about Fridays outside Lent.

I know. Thatā€™s why I figured this forum would already have a consensus on the topic. šŸ˜‰
I donā€™t think youā€™ll find much consensus. Itā€™s CAF, after all. šŸ™‚ I eat a veg diet and avoid the ā€œImpossible Burgerā€ not only because of its suspicious ingredients, but also because my idea of being vegetarian isnā€™t about trying to be as much like the meat-eaters as I can.

Whether or not to avoid it on Friday is, at least at this time, a matter of prudential judgment.
Iā€™m a vegetarian but go vegan on Fridays.
Your profile doesnā€™t mention it, but are you Catholic? This is a great idea! Iā€™ve always wondered how to handle Fridays because theyā€™re so inconsequential for me. Iā€™ve been vegan but lapsed back into ovo-lacto. šŸ™‚

Not a Catholic yetā€¦Iā€™m working on it. Might be by Easter but Iā€™ll see how it all pans out.

I bet being a full-time vegan was hard! I donā€™t think i could live without cheese on a permanent basis lol.

Hmmm, Iā€™m thinking of abstaining from all food on Lenten Fridays.

Iā€™ll try to do that on Ash Wednesday and see how it goes.
