Yeah, I mentioned upthread, I can’t even find hats that fit me, outside of the children’s section (which has very few options suitable to be seen in public on the head of an adult woman, even an eccentric one). The milliner proper is almost non-existent nowadays - all you get are department store one size fits most options.

Find an African-American neighborhood and ask around. The “church hat” is very much a staple in black Protestant churches. These extravagant hats are generally custom made. Being custom, I’m sure you can design a simple hat to fit your tastes. 😉👒

Hee, simple. Still, though, once I get the basic hat it’s simple enough to decorate it.

They sure are! I love them!

I am unsure how many churches of that sort we have around here. This area is much more high church than many parts of the u.s. - our neighbors tend to be the lutherans and episcopals more than the baptists.

It is regional. I can find hats at Burlington Coat Factory to match any dress. Some places I’ve lived (Southern US) it is pretty easy to find hat shops and many ladies that make hats at home to sell.

I’ve loved burlington coat factory’s hats! But they do that same silly thing where they’re all “one size”. My head is simply too small for one size hats.

I don’t really like hats too much and certainly not the kind one would wear to church, but my head is too small for a “one size fits all,” too.

I love watching British extravaganzas where the woman must wear hats or those fascinating fascinators. Talk about elaborate decoration! Wow! I watched Prince Harry’s wedding just to see what everyone was wearing. I had a favorite hat, but can’t remember who wore it now.

A friend of mine has a similar issue. She only wears a hat at Easter, calls it her Easter bonnet. She buys it at Burlington in the little girl section. It always looks very nice and unless she told me it was a “girls” hat I never would have known. I don’t think it is necessary to go on a wild goose chase looking for hats, but for those already seeking it may be an option.

I suppose it depends on the region and one’s personal taste. I tend to find most girl’s hats to be a bit too “sweet” for my style. I think if one favored a lot of pink and more country style it might be easier.

Yeah - I just hate online ordering clothing and I’m terrible at shipping things back. So I usually stick with wraps and scarves.

Shipping things back is a real pain. I agree. I’ve got a few clothing items I don’t use or want because I’m so bad about shipping back.

Yes, I most certainly would defend him. As I’ve mentioned more than once I belong to a small men’s choir specializing in Gregorian chant. We have a sober dress code for the purpose of uniformity, so that no one chorister stands out. We train our voices similarly so that no one voice stands out, it is one of the principles of Gregorian chant.
Good for you. One of the marks of a good choir is that all the voices blend, no one voice stands out.

I personally think it’s ridiculous that a priest would ask your wife to not veil when she is leading the music. The purpose of veiling is humility, honor, etc. in front of the Lord. It would be a double standard to veil part of the time and not the other if you feel called to do it for the Lord. Your priest of all people should understand that, and shouldn’t make her step down or refuse the job for veiling.

Above all, just pray and discern it. That’s the best thing she can do–as well as explain to the priest.

I agree. Especially in view of Holy Scripture 1 Cor 11: 5 - 6.

As Saint Paul in the Scripture attests: it is better for a woman to veil before the angels present at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass than it is to be a liturgical minister. If I were her I’d just quit.

Also I don’t know if the priest can do this though to be honest. The Holy Scripture commends women veiling. Priests can not refuse to give the Eucharist to some one kneeling and receiving on the tongue and those are not even mentioned in the Holy Scripture, so I don’t think this priest has any right for something that IS in the Scripture.

What “traditional” priest would tell her remove her veil during Mass? Honestly that’s so offensive… just to to the Traditional Latin Mass from now on.

do you have a parapet on your house? St Paul also told people to build one on their house.
