who bashed who?

I was BASHED. I was told I had an attitude by saying 86% of annulment petitions are granted.

I NEVER bashed any individual.

And I stand by my opinion, just as you have YOUR opinon, that way too many annulments are given out too freely, and that annulments and divorce rupture families which in turn hurts society.

You can have a different opinion if you want to.
Not to pile on any more, but you do realize that the people who go through the process are only playing by the rules that the Church sets up? What else are they supposed to do? Abuse does not preclude use after all.

If some diocese are playing fast and loose with the rules then it will be up to the Rota to deal with them. The best we can do is do as our fearless leaders command.

The irony is that in less than 40 posts and 24 hours, this thread has been completely hijacked by the free-n-easy annulment crowd.

Luna
This isn’t being bashed? of course not, because I am the lone voice on this thread.

I am used to the “gang up” style on C/A. Which is why I am posting less and less.
There is only support here if you are in agreement with the majority of the posters.

You were NOT bashed. You were asked politely to provide documentation of your (wrong) opinion. Then the facts were presented, which you ignored. You continue to assert your (uninformed) opinion despite having facts presented to you. But no one is bashing you.

In fact, your posts highlight the OP’s topic perfectly.
Oh that is good news to hear because a few posts previous to this one told me I was off topic!

I did provide TWO links to my “wrong” documentation. I suppose I made up the Msnbc link.

As already pointed out, the writer of the articles you linked drew conclusions from the Holy Father’s speeches that did not reflect anything he actually said. Writers do that sometimes to create a story.

Also, since I am the one who you felt bashed you, that was not my intent. I believe strongly in the permanence of marriage. Are too many annulments granted in the US? I don’t know. The process is closed and I have no idea what the back story is on these couples to determine the validity of their marriages. But Jesus gave the apostles and their successors the power of binding and loosing, so I choose to leave those decisions up to them.

I could be pesuaded to agree with your view if you could tell me what Jesus had to actually say about annulments , and the annulment process. Any chance of that happening? 🙂

You do realize that one of the most important aspects of our Catholic faith is that we draw on more than just Sacred Scripture, right? “But Jesus didn’t mention it!” That’s actually a common argument I hear from non-Catholic Christians when they are defending homosexual relationships. “But Jesus never spoke about homosexuality!”

What did Jesus say about gay marriage or human cloning? There are many things not addressed in the Bible. Jesus left us the Church to guide us, not just the Bible. Again, He specifically gave Peter the power of binding and loosing did he not?

Yes, because you are off-topic.

This thread is called “why is it your business?” It is NOT called “is the annulment process flawed?”

I’m still trying to figure out what your posts have to do with the issue of “why is it your business”.

Jesus did not speak of annulments. he DID speak of divorce and remarriage.

Jesus did not speak of homosexuality and/or homosexual relations.
BUT
St Paul DID.

The OP talked about WHY the annulment process and reaction to it.
How am I off topic? I am in your view, because I took the opposite side.

At the risk of repetition, an annulment states that there was no valid marriage to begin with, it does not end a sacramentally valid marriage.

I ask again, did Jesus not give the apostles the power of binding and loosing?

OK I will address Christ said that remarriage after divorce was adultery unless the marriage was unlawful. I am paraphrasing here so I apologize it is getting late. I am including a video here though to take you through it - the Tradition part comes in on how the Church goes about investigating whether or not the marriage was lawful or unlawful.

Matthew 19

9 Now I say this to you: anyone who divorces his wife – I am not speaking of an illicit marriage – and marries another, is guilty of adultery.’

A marriage that is annulled has been found by the Church to be illicit, it’s that simple.

But I don’t think that you really want to understand what an annulment is. It seems as though you just want to repeat your false notions over and over and over and over again.

That wasn’t your argument. You said that Jesus never spoke about annulment.

Jesus and St. Paul didn’t talk about abortion. So that’s ok, right?

You are placing yourself in a position of greater authority than the CHURCH.

other translations say lewd conduct or save for fornication .
An illicit marriage would not need a divorce, now would it.
