Why would I care what a Protestant translation of the Bible says? I got the translation I posed out of my Catholic Bible. Are you Catholic?other translations say lewd conduct or save for fornication .
An illicit marriage would not need a divorce, now would it.
That wording is not used in my Douay Rheims translation, but I did find the term “fornication” in an online Douay Rheims. Even then, it is notated, [9] Except it be: In the case of fornication, that is, of adultery, the wife may be put away: but even then the husband cannot marry another as long as the wife is living.since when is douhay rheimes protestant?
Douay Rheims does translate both versions - Catholic and Protestant. That wording is not used in my Douay Rheims translation, but I did find the term “fornication” in an online Douay Rheims. All this means is that the wronged spouse is not obligated to continue conjugal life with the adulterer. The wronged spouse STILL cannot marry another while the other spouse is living.
This is the Douay-Rheims Version (Rom-Cat) Version:32Code:"It was also said, 'Whoever divorces his wife must give her a bill of divorce.'
But I say to you, whoever divorces his wife (unless the marriage is unlawful) causes her to commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

However, one other thing that was explained to me a while back was that this may have meant fornication prior to the marriage for instance the woman not being a Virgin - which also takes us back to the unlawful marrriage idea. This does fit with the contextual exegesis of St Joseph who was going to “divorce Mary quietly” until he had the dream of the angel. And it hath been said, whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a bill of divorce. [32] But I say to you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, excepting for the cause of fornication, maketh her to commit adultery: and he that shall marry her that is put away, committeth adultery.
Really? That is interesting.Douay Rheims does translate both versions - Catholic and Protestant.
To some people it is only a matter of taking out or adding 7 books. So yes, I can go buy a Protestant Douay-Rheims if I want one. They are harder to find but they do exist.Really? That is interesting.
Sorry I will update my link in my signature block immediately.Uh, oh! Joan’s link appears to be to our group forum, which is members only. I went to the group page and copied that address:

See if that works better for you. If not, at the top of most pages there is a bar with Home–Search–Groups–Members–Profile–Help–Log Out. If you mouse over Groups, you’ll get the option to search groups, and if you search for Annulment and Divorce, you’ll find us. Be careful not to join the definct Divorce and Anullment one. You want the group that tells you it is for people who couldn’t get into the old group because of technical difficulties.
