Here is a great homily by an Orthodox Archbishop in the United States. May Our Lord send more of his kind our way.

Sermon in Portland
Archbishop Sample is not "O"rthodox! He is Roman Catholic.
The EF needs no defense. It is an official and appropriate form of liturgy within the Roman Rite of the Catholic Church, just as is the Ordinary Form of the Mass.

I don’t disagree with your response, but for a slight suggestion that “Mass” be capitalized.

“Orthodox” needs to be lower-cased.

Orthodox= Orthodox Christianity

orthodox= sound or correct in doctrine
Why please must “orthodox” be placed as an adjective before “Archbishop” at all?

I had the pleasure of being at a Pontifical High Mass celebrated by then Bishop Sample here in Detroit.

The music was an original High Mass composition done by the local pastor, and performed by elements of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

Words simply do not describe such a Mass!

I disagree, because there are many over the past few decades who have not considered it an “appropriate form of liturgy”. Perhaps you won’t find this at CAF, but I would venture to say that it’s an idea still prevalent in many places.

God bless Archbishop Sample and send us more of his kind. He is an example to all, in my opinion. We need Bishops like him here in Germany.

Gives you an idea of the times we live in no? We must pledge obedience to the Bishops, this is true. However, that doesn’t mean that these Bishops withhold all of the true teachings of the Church.

I agree with steymard. In theory, the EF should not require any defense; in practice and actuality, I believe that it indeed needs advocates, both within the clergy and among the faithful.

The Mass took place at the Brigittine monastery which sits in some farmland northwest of Amity, Oregon. They have about 10 monks now (I have not been by in a number of years) and are fairly well known for their fudges, which is one of (if not the only one of) their means of support. They are in the Augustinian tradition, formed in 1976 after several centuries of no male monks.

If you like fudge and are so inclined, you might look them up and order some fudge; I am sure they could use the business.

Their chapel seats about 50 laity on the lay side of the screen; choir looks like it could seat about 20 or so monks. They do not ordain any priests, as last I heard.

It was obviously made for a video audience. So how many the chapel actually holds is probably as irrelevant as how many EWTN chapels hold.

This was excellent. Thank you for sharing. Now try to get your parish to offer the EF. I have tried with 2 pastors and was told no.

So to hear the EF Mass I need go to a neighboring parish.

No clue; the first I heard of it was on this forum. My comments were simply to explain where this took place.

The fudge is great - I would invite your support of the monks.
