Can you explain what posture the Pope takes when he prays? I’ve heard all kinds of reports on this, from he’s bowing as the Muslims do, to he’s standng with his eyes closed, he’s kneeling, he’s sitting…geesh!!!
 
It worked for me. The Pope stood next to the Mufti (I think that’s right) and the Mufti said a very short prayer while the Pope stood there silently for quite a bit. He looked to be praying, and when he finished he made a slight bow and they moved on.

Did you notice that it looked like Pope Benedict was holding/touching his cross while praying?
I do this especially when I am very nervous/afraid/anxious. Without knowing it I hold the crucifix I wear around my neck while saying a prayer.

I noticed that too. He also appeared to pray quite a bit longer than his host, which I thought was interesting - seeming to imply to me, at least, that he wasn’t being ‘led’ in prayer, but was saying his own prayer.

I agreed with a poster on another thread that this seemed to be an unplanned prayer time (the Muslims weren’t prostrate or on mats). I would like to hear the English translation of what the host said to the Pope before they prayed.
