Hmm… too long to post in the headline! should’ve read disfellowshipped.

Video of two Jehovah’s Witness Elders announcing a Wrongdoer that he is Disfellowshipped

watchtowerinformationservice.org/index.php/page/2/

If you have problems viewing it, go page 2 of the website:

watchtowerinformationservice.org/

it is worth the time to look at it. It is unbelievable that when the man who is being disfellowshipped goes to get information for them they leave. Take a look at it, and tell us what you all think of it.

Iam against their shunning of their members as it is a form of punishment (which they state it is not punishment, but it is )

We do not shun our members. we do not cut them off from friends and family. At least not that I know of. if it is in Cannon Law, I’d like to see it.

No we do not shun them and cut them off from family and friends but we do excommunicate them.
Excommunication (Lat. ex, out of, and communio or communicatio, communion – exclusion from the communion), the principal and severest censure, is a medicinal, spiritual penalty that deprives the guilty Christian of all participation in the common blessings of ecclesiastical society…Meanwhile, his status before the Church is that of a stranger. He may not participate in public worship nor receive the Body of Christ or any of the sacraments SOURCE

Thank you for that! Iam glad we do not shun them because that would be hard for the sinner to repent don’t you think? They way the witnesses do it is cruel and not nice. It hurts the shunned one badly. Take for eample, the case of Lawrence Hughes who spoke out against the organization after the death of his beloved daughter, Bethany. When he spoke out against the falsetower, he was shunned. It was mean, and it was unjust. What they did to his daughter was unjust.

as another side note…
Prior to the 1983 Code of Canon Law, there were two degrees of excommunication:vitandi (shunned), and tolerati (tolerated). This distinction no longer applies today, and excommunicated Catholics are still under obligation to attend Mass, even though they are barred from the Eucharist. SOURCE

And that is a good point to note for one reason, we are obligated to attend mass even though we are barred from the Eucharist.

The witnesses do not even associate with members who are shunned. Watch the video. One point the man notes and it is a valid one, is when he brings up the point about the Holy Spirit.

Yes they are barred from the Eucharist and other sacraments.
But to say that the Church never shunned would be wrong…as it would seem that they used to.
I did watch the video…it really is no different than what the Amish do and what the Church **used **to do.

hmm… ineresting points of view.iam glad the church does not shun anymore.

All this talk about Catholic excommunication…do you know of any Catholic that has been excommunicated in your lifetime? In your parents’ lifetime? In your grandparents’ lifetime?

Yes i do as a matter of fact… we all do… certain members of the SSPX for example… but lets not get into that here okay? this is about jw’s and their practice of it. Karin only high lighted some info for me that was important.

Sorry to break up this little party, but I think I should quote a Scripture here 🙂
It is actually reported that there is immorality among you, and of a kind that is not found even among pagans; for a man is living with his father’s wife. And you are arrogant! Ought you not rather to mourn? Let him who has done this be removed from among you.
I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with immoral men; not at all meaning the immoral of the world, or the greedy or the robbers, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world. But rather I wrote to you not to associate with any one who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of immorality or greed, or is an idolator, reviler, drunkard, or robber–not even to eat with such a one. For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the Church whom you are to judge? God judges those outside. ‘Drive out the wicked person from among you.’
Maybe shunning isn’t fun, but it seems biblically justified.

Guess again folks!!!

Liberal Catholics are the most guilty of shunning in the Church today. They DO shun Catholics who are in keeping with the real Church.

Wake up and smell the bad odor!
