The priest, a symbol of the struggle for religious freedom and democracy in Vietnam is semi-paralyzed, but can speak and responds to treatment. He was admitted to the military hospital in Hanoi and is being followed by the chief of cardiology. Family members report that he is “well treated” and “thanks” the doctors.

Fr. Van Ly first served 14 years in prison for his work on behalf of religious freedom and human rights in Vietnam. Then he was sentenced to eight years for leading a democracy movement.

But hey, he is getting free medical care. Communism is obviously the wave of the future.
