OK. what do they hope to gain, thier all dead?So they can baptize your ancestors into the Mormon faith.

Obviously, LDS do not recognize any other baptism besides their own and they believe they have the proper priesthood authority since it was taken away due to the Apostasy and given back to the earth through Joseph Smith. Everyone needs to be baptized before the 2nd Coming of Christ which they believe it will be soon. Therefore; everyone needs to hear the Gospel (including the dead) in order for them to be saved.OK. what do they hope to gain, thier all dead?
Note that the situation that you have quoted is not abortion. After being thoroughly hounded on the LDS position on aboriton, I was shocked to discover it’s also OK with Catholics “to save a mother’s life” Ohh the hypocrisy (or ignorance) of some posters here, insinuating they are better because they never support abortion.

Parker can give you a better answer, but I’ll try. They do baptize deceased persons by proxy, believing that if the deceased hear the Mormon message and accept it in the afterlife and are then baptized, they can go to (a higher level?) of heaven. They have no concept of the baptism of desire, as Catholics do, so I suppose it seems like an issue of fairness to them.I don’t bash other religions or cogregations. That being said, I have for a long time wondered why the Mormons/LDS keep geneological records on non-mormons? It is a pretty decent source of info for those interested in geneology though.
I’d appreciate any answers.

My understanding is that we all won’t necessarily be Mormon, but we will be saved. Just not in the highest level of heaven which is reserved for the Temple worthy LDS folks.
Their thought is if they are right, most will be saved. If they are wrong, no harm has been done.
That said, I would prefer the work not to be done regardless. As a technical 6th generation LDS, I don’t believe my wishes will be honored even if I’ve been a Catholic my entire life.![]()
Mormons tend to date the Apostasy sometimes between when the last Apostle died and probably by the Council of Nicea.Hi, Blueadept,
Would you kindly explain that part about the, “…proper priesthood authority since it was taken away due to the Apostasy and given back to the earth through Joseph Smith”? Since Smith came to the Protestant revolt a bit late - whose ‘apostasy’ does this address?
Thank you and God bless

You can’t really lump Mormonism with the Protestant movement. Protestant are Reformists that started with Luther and Calvin. They were technically fine with Catholic Church until that time when they believed the RCC got a few things wrong.
LDS, on the otherhand, is a Restoration-type church who believes the proper priesthood authority was removed from the earth which they refer to as the Apostasy. This of course was given back through the prophet Joseph Smith. They consider him a seer, prophet and revelator. They also consider each subsequent president as a prophet, seer and revelator and of course they re-established the 12 Apostles as well since Joseph Smith’s time and even today. Another difference is that EVERY worthy male, holds the priesthood.
If you want to read something about the LDS church that presents a middle ground, I suggest the book “Rough Stone Rolling”.Hi, Blueadept,
Thank you very much.
God bless

Critics could read it and be convinced the Mormons got it wrong and LDS members can read it and believe that everything was answered.
That’s not easy to do nowadays …![]()
Mormons believe that if they baptize our dead that our dead will then have to make a choice to become Mormon and will then go to their (Mormon) celestial kingdom. I’m not sure if Mormons believe if those dead baptized will go to hell if they refuse to become Mormons in the next life.OK. what do they hope to gain, thier all dead?

After all they have baptized Pope John Paul II SIX TIMES! They have baptized our saints. They bragged about hitting the mother lode of Catholic names and they also baptize Jewish Holocaust victims.
The Catholic Church now forbids giving baptismal records to anyone outside the faith.
I’ve had Mormons laugh at me in insinuating that accepting an LDS baptism for the dead infers that one is Mormon. So I would like to see a CFR on that Miriam. Their thought is that salvation can only occur through proper priesthood authority and they are the only ones with it. They are doing it since Jesus said to baptize all nations in the name of the Father, and of the Son and the Holy Ghost.Mormons believe that if they baptize our dead that our dead will then have to make a choice to become Mormon and will then go to their (Mormon) celestial kingdom. I’m not sure what you are asking for here. CFR? Is it okay if I claim ignorance on that?I’ve had Mormons laugh at me in insinuating that accepting an LDS baptism for the dead infers that one is Mormon. So I would like to see a CFR on that Miriam. It’s a call for a reference (CFR) since I believe you are stating a personal opinion.I’m not sure what you are asking for here. CFR? Is it okay if I claim ignorance on that?

Darn it I lost my links. I will post them again tomorrow.
