Views on Mormonism?

I must agree with the negative Starbucks comments, but I wanted to give some information for those interested in Mormon theology and how it differs from Christianity. Go to HOTM.tv for a program by an ex-Mormon teaching Christ from the Bible. He broadcasts from Salt Lake City and answers several calls and e-mails per show along with instruction from the Bible. You can also hit youtube, type in Shawn McCraney to get started. Enjoy.

I am a native Seattleite and first tasted Starbucks on the Bremerton ferry…it was different.

Then I moved south to another state, and told this coffee shop ‘Coffee People’ that I liked theirs alot better than Starbucks…

The price for a cup of coffee is extremely high.

I think I dislike the price more than I do the coffee…
 
Well, I was in Italy way back when…and a priest ordered me a Cappuchino…and I looked at the froth, wondering if the milk would taste ‘gamey’…some times you get milk from the countryside that has a side taste of the fields with it…sorry…but it is the truth.

Well I drank one sip of the Cappuchino, and my friend told me that it is named after the priests with whom I was to be with in the missions…the Cappuchinos from Bari, Italy…and they were fantastic…just like the coffee…

Then another thing the priests loved to do after a meal, is go over to the buffet, stir in some coffee mixture, add sugar…into these tiny cups, and then stir and stir and stir con gusto…then add the hot water…it was very good and very concentrated…

(These same priests loved to walk down the streets doing Charlie Chaplin routines or pretending they were the 3 stooges with each other…so much fun!..then in the missions, they were very dynamic. The one who ordered me a cappuchino had me visit his mission. We had to drive about 4 blocks’ distance to a school building. He took me on the motor bike, and as we were going along…hundreds of students began racing us …seeing all these kids running in the open field…

Really miss Italy, their priests and missionaries, and their coffee and pizza.

The Mormons reject the Catholic priesthood, the principle cause of our ‘corrupt doctrines’, as well as a good cup of Italian coffee…I like the latte’s too.
 
(In times past, the best Chinese food was cheap and in greasy dumps along Skid Row.)

I take a sort of strange interest in Mormonism purely as a pseudo-Christian sect. Its theology is so radically different from Christianity that they are not even remotely similar. I read through some of the their other scriptures, such as the Doctrine and Covenants, as well as the Pearl of Great Price, and it is to say the least very very bizarre.
Funny thing is, for me, the Book of Mormon is so obviously false that I cannot even remotely entertain its validity for a moment - this is not because of it’s many glaring inconsistencies, historical inaccuracies, and the like. No, my biggest reason is because it is a supposedly written by many authors over many centuries, and yet the reader should notice one thing especially throughout it:
The entire Book of Mormon is written in the exact same narrative voice from beginning to end, and that narrative voice is almost identical to the writings of Joseph Smith in the Doctrines and Covenants. It is obviously the work of one person.

Agreed. I see you are a catechumen. What were you before you found Catholicism?

I have inlaws that are former SDAs. I never really looked at satanism (although I did read a little about La Vey). Wicca piqued my interest, and I still find it fascinating.
 
Nearly all of my friends are LDS. I have gone to a lot their church functions and some of their general conferences. I have almost converted myself a couple of times, but just can’t see myself getting Baptized. Most of the information you’ll find online is pretty twisted and with suggested agendas.

If you want to learn how Christianity and Mormonism are different go to hotm.tv. Shawn McCraney, a former mormon, now a Christian, hosts a tv call in show from Salt Lake City discussing both religions. It’s very interesting if you are a Christian and probably very irritating if you are a Mormon.

Thanks man, but I’ve seen that guy. I don’t care for him. I took a bit of theology in school, enough to get my feet wet. I take people and places for what they produce as what is typically defined or undefined per definition. I don’t think that the LDS church has anything more debatable then what my own church does.
