Is it allowed to do a Sunday mass in the Extraordinary Form (tridentine rite) on the evening of the previous day (not earlier than 4pm)? Will that fulfil our Sunday obligation?

Yes and yes, although I know of only one or two places that have it.

Yes, and yes (as the poster above said) but not all orders that say the Mass in the EF will do Vigil Masses. The FSSP, for example, does not do any Vigil Masses except for feasts such as Easter and Christmas, and in these cases, the Mass is always said at midnight, so the mass itself is actually on the Sunday.

The manner in which the liturgy is celebrated is governed by the law in place at the time the books were promulgated, but the surrounding discipline is governed by law currently in force. So when I receive Communion in the EF it must be kneeling and on the tongue, but I am allowed to do so after a fast of only one hour. The timing of the Mass is one of those surrounding disciplines governed by the current law in force.

I can say, though, that my experience aligns with dshix’s, insofar as EF Saturday “vigils” aren’t really consistent with the total package spirituality promoted by the Ecclesia Dei institutes (traditionalist orders), so the only Masses of this type I remember having seen on offer have been from diocesan priests who live in both ritual worlds.

Yes, The Code of Canon Law still applies, so it is both valid and licit.

Saturday Mass anticipated was in practice at least several years before the first post-Vatican II Missal was promulgated. (yes, I was around for them 😉 ) They are two separate issues.
