Violence and Islam

Interesting thread. Not terribly charitable on the part of some of us catholics though.

To our muslim visitors, WELCOME! I appreciate your reading and learning about the catholic faith, as evidenced by some of your posts.

Clearly, none of the muslims posting here advocate blowing up infidels, no? So why try to paint all muslims with the same brush? There is undeniably a LARGE portion of the Islamic world that simply wishes to live in peace with their beliefs.

But, muslim brothers, you must also admit that there is an ENORMOUS struggle going on for the heart of Islam right now in the world. Surely you’ve seen what the reactions were in large parts of the Islamic world were when the towers came down? PLEASE, recognize it, and JIHAD against the violent infiltrators of your religion. REPORT suspicious activities or violent rhetoric. CEASE supporting mosques or imams who spout hateful rhetoric. JOIN US government efforts to stomp out terrorist organizations (they could sure use a few Arabic translators).

Catholics, remember that it’s easy for us to judge. Here in our nice air conditioned homes, typing on our nice computers, taking breaks to hit the nicely stocked fridge… It’s tougher to resist bitterness and violence when suffering crushing poverty with seemingly no hope for future improvements. Just ask our catholic brethren in Ireland…

Islamic violence is not connected to poverty or lack of opportunity.

the 19 gentlemen who flew aircraft into two office towers were wealthy, well educated and motivated by a culture of death.

So are you saying that if you’re poor that justifies becoming a terrorist or suicide bomber? Give us a break!

There are millions of poor people out there that don’t resort to any acts of violence!:tsktsk:

There is no justification for killing innocent people.

But that doesnt mean we can all sit here and point fingers and judge them. Poverty and injustice lead to hopelessness…its a dangerous mixture.

Unlike us, these people watch their families being killed without any kind of justice being done. They are facing difficult tests, may God give them strength and peace…and may we not be so proud and naive as to judge them.
 
It is not being judgemental to point out an obvious evil. Judging the act is different from judging the person. Furthermore, we have an obligation to point out evil acts, and to judge acts as good or bad. It’s what helps us form our conscience, and enables us to make distinctions between right and wrong.

kindness and compassion is one thing, but there is a 1400 year legacy of Muslim violence. This is not being un-Christian to point this out–it is historical fact. In fact, Islam is what precipitated the crusades, when the Muslim raiders, after conquering the entire Arabian peninsula, tried to force their way into Western Europe. No country has ever gone peacefully to Islam. Consider the Sudan, or the Christian slaughter in the Phillipines.

Well, tell that to the terrorists and suicide bombers! They don’t care who they kill, they’re Muslims and kill Muslims too! It’s crazy!
 
You pretty sure MANX, well tell me a name of a respected Cleric from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia who came out against terrorism or 9-11. I heard a lot of them blame Israel if that’s what you mean? I also remeber seeing Arabs Living in Israel (some call them 'pales") dancing in the streets and handing out candy to their kids.

I remember during the Hajj season two years ago, the Imam of the Kabah Abdul Raham as Sudais spoke out against all forms of terrorism in all parts of the world.

Please be aware that, as with Catholicism (and most other religions) there seem to be those in Islam who are guilty of evil acts and that does not make all members of that faith “the bad guys”.

Please endeavor to avoid bashing and inflamatory posts on all sides or the moderators will have to close and remove offending threads. I am leaving this thread on the forum only due to the afct that it shows charity by posters from all sides later on and Emad has ended it very well.
