No, in fact, not at all. God (who is the essence of life) entered Mary’s womb and became Man. There was nothing artificial about it - nor was there any semen - thus, no “artificial insemination” whatsoever. 🙂
So how did the egg get fertilized? Was a fully formed fetus implanted? Another mystery.

All right, thanks guys.

I suppose that this is just a matter of faith. I was always taught that the only way to get pregnant was for a man and woman to come together. Either that or have an artificial insemination.
This is correct. For the rest of us. But Mary is special - she was chosen by God to bear His Son.

No - she conceived of the Holy Spirit. It is a miracle. She never had sex with anyone.

Also - there is nothing to say that she delivered the Christ Child vaginally. Some consider that when she gave birth that He did not pass through the birth canal, but was brought out of her womb in a miraculous way. I do not believe there is any official position on this however.

The Church doctrine is that she remained virginal before, during, and after His birth. HOWEVER, there is no clear definition of what “virgin” means, that it does not necessarily mean her hymen remained intact.

The Holy Spirit is, well a spirit right? No body right? Did the Holy Spirit do this without the Father? So the Holy Spirit is the Father then? My head hurts.

I’m not sure why you find it hard to believe that Mary conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit overshadowing her and don’t find it hard to believe that God created everything that exists from nothing by willing it to be.

It is the Holy Spirit that gives life-- at the beginning of the world (see Genesis) and other places in the Bible we read about the breathe of God, etc-- that is why we call Him the Lord And Giver Of Life in the creed.

So, the Holy Spirit had a unique role in Mary conceiving Jesus.

Isn’t that…kind of impossible?

You know, to have a baby without the woman having sexual relations or being artificially inseminated…?

Honest question…I don’t want to come off as antagonistic.

This is only because scriptures say she had no birth pains. That is not to say Mary could not of given birth by normal vaginal transit … she probably did, just was spared from birth pains.

Now we are talking about understanding the Holy Trinity. This is a complicated topic in itself. Perhaps worthy of a separate topic.

Probably the same way that the mud was formed into a man, to become Adam - since Jesus is the “second Adam”. 🤷
God the Father did the mud creation with Adam and I believe breath from the Holy Spirit was involved somehow in that too. Lizzane is saying the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary.
So why is Jesus God’s only begotton son then? Isn’t he the Holy Spirit’s only begotton Son? Why does God delegate so many things he can do himself?

Edit mode: sorry Lizzane I just missed your reply. I see this is getting to be about the trinity so I will not derail and stop posting.:o

Man was not involved in the process. God was the creator … and he didn’t use the standard means you are aware of.

Think outside the Box … 😃

Hmm. I’ll have to think about it.

I ponder things before making opinions on them. Thanks though.

The Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit are all one, yet separate. Understanding the complexity of the Holy Trinity is very difficult for some people to grasp, and Catholics just accept this on Faith.

God is three Persons - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. So, whatever the Holy Spirit is doing, God is doing, and whatever the Son is doing, God is doing, and whatever the Father is doing, God is doing. Often, we also use the term God to signify God the Father alone, so it’s easy to get confused, unless you stop to think it through.

Before there was a Beginning, before there was Time, God the Father generated God the Son, and God the Father and God the Son together generated the Holy Spirit; that’s how God the Son is “the only-begotten of the Father” - that phrase has nothing to do with the Incarnation of Jesus Christ, which, as you rightly point out, is the work of God the Spirit.
