Virgin Mary 'crosses the finish line' with Olympic gold winner

I was watching the relay race yesterday and I saw the Kenyan racer make the sign of the cross before his race.
 
Has an athlete who’s finished in the middle of the field, or last, waved a religious symbol around in delight?

Possibly, but I’ve never seen it.

  1. The ones who don’t win don’t get filmed.
  2. This was a rarity. Most so inclined offer prayers of thanks or pay homage silently.
  3. Your lame attempt to poo-poo a wonderful moment is duely noted, as is your unfortunate enjoyment is souring other people’s happiness.

All the athletes are filmed. And interviewed. By local, regional, national and global networks covering the events.

Not rare at all. I see athletes pray, bless themselves, give thanks to God when they win all the time. All the time. London was no exception.

Oh dear.

I guess the realization if she’d come last, she wouldn’t have taken the picture out and waved it about, giving thanks for just being able to take part, is a difficult one to come to terms with. :rolleyes:

I’ve duely noted that athletes that profess a faith in a Deity are quick to offer thanks publically when they win, but seem terribly shy in doing so when they lose.

Those who did it after their race or competition were IMHO the one’s who gave the better example of thanking God (or through BVM) for their gifts and effort.

None were seen or “caught on tape” making a sign of the cross after finishing less than first that I am aware of. Those competitors who did, have their lives in the hands of Christ, win or lose.
 
People said the same thing about Tebow, that he only prayed after victories-which was NOT true. I went to Gator games and Tim “Tebowed” after every game, win or lose. They only showed it on TV when the Gators won.
 
Every week during the NFL season, at every game, players on the winning AND losing teams get together in the middle of the field and have prayer time in which they give thanks to God. It happens every week, I’ve seen it at many different games, and it happens right in the middle of the field. You give thanks to God for all things, whether you win or lose.

And they never show this on television-you have to be at a game to see it.
