This statue, center of miracles, has for five hundred years been revered by Catholics there. Every November, hundreds of thousands of pilgrims in that country go there. Nearly everyone in the town has a story of a miracle there. Now the church where it was placed has been severely damaged by the recent earthquake in Equador, but this statue, inside, was untouched. Many believed the Virgin protected them during the quake. Gathered with a group of hundreds for evening mass, the parish priest asked “do we still believe in our mother?” … “Yes, said the crowd.”
