As we celebrate Memorial Day, remembering those who served the cause of freedom, let’s not forget what one of the strongest factors was in enabling our military men and women to serve with valor and distinction–Faith. This is often overlooked, but shouldn’t be. In the Catholic church in my hometown of Hudson, NY, St. Mary’s, there is a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Victory. On the wall of that chapel are small brass plaques with the names of everyone from the area who served during World War II. The small name plaques cover most of a pretty good size wall. Many of them have a star next to the name, indicating they were killed in action. The entire country was much more religious in those days, and had the virtue necessary to overcome great adversity–whether the war or the rigors of the Great Depression.
Today, do we really believe that most of us would be able to make those kinds of sacrifices? Without faith it is highly unlikely. “For man it is impossible, but for God all things are possible.” Many of us felt a lot better about our country before we lost our rational and moral mind and declared that killing the most innocent and helpless human beings was legal and moral. It is a matter of history that nations and societies that have been responsible for monumental human rights violations such as genocide and ethnic cleansing fall by the wayside relatively quickly and disappear, covered by the sands of time.
So long as the insanity of abortion on demand exists in this nation, we should be painfully aware that a dark cloud of destruction hovers over our country, and what goes around comes around. The voices of millions of aborted children cry out from the endless realm of their resting place: “How long, O Lord, how long?”

I’ve been thinking about that too. President Lincoln’s Second Inaugural Address is a sermon explaining to the people that God judged America through the Civil War for northern passive acceptance of the existence of slavery in the south, and for southern persistence in the cruelty and evil of slavery.
Abortion is a FAR worse crime, a holocaust. It’s not like every slave was ripped limb from limb by his master. Some were killed, some raped, many forced illegitimately to labor very hard for no reason other than the color of their skin. They were horribly treated, but they would have said that they preferred their condition to being torn limb from limb. Oppression of a large population is not so grave an evil as the genocide of tens of millions of babies. So I’ve been thinking to myself, “If Lincoln is right about the Civil War coming as a judgment to America for slavery, what horrors are we storing up for ourselves in our pursuit of abortion?”
It’s truly a very, very scary prospect.

You are in total agreement with Fr corapi. he has said this so many times, I cannot even count it. He said that 9-11 will be a stroll in the park compared to what is coming. And I do believe him…wholeheartedly! (I would take this for my own country btw)…

I hope God brings an end to it soon. Abortion is the greatest injustice ever created by man.
Pro-aborts like to argue that abortion affords women more freedom, but I disagree. By making it legal to kill off future generations of women before they are even allowed to be born, abortion is actually the greatest attack against women’s rights ever to exist.
And then you have the issue of forced abortions, and the pro-abort’s refusal to support laws that would outlaw it. It’s all about protecting the financial interests of abortionists when you get right down to it.

People say that God is holding back His wrath for the benefit of the righteous people who live in the world, who would be hurt by an act of judgement. I personally would be willing to endure any hardship just so the victims of abortion can have their deaths avenged by God.

I would like to know that God isn’t as silent as He sometimes seems to be. I’ve read about miracles that have saved babies from abortion. One story involved the unexplained sound of a baby crying in the waiting room of an abortion mill. Nobody could find where the sound was coming from, but many women chose not to abort their children after hearing it.
I’ve been reading Habakkuk over and over again, since I feel he echoes a lot of my own questions and concerns.

I sometimes wonder where God is in the evils of the world. But then I catch myself and remind myself that God knows all and sees all. He performs miracles today, absolutely. I’ve seen them myself.
You have a compassionate heart and God sees that also. He will set things right in His time. Don’t lose sight of Him and don’t doubt His ways. He will only allow evil for a limited amount of time as He did in the days of Noah. And then one day He dealt with it.

I also have “zeal without brains” sometimes.
But I can’t stop thinking about all of the babies who will lose their lives unfairly while God waits to act. Not to say He is unfair, but it puzzles me.

Me too, my friend…me too.
But they also see our Father (in my view). When we look at the evils of this world (I will omit naming them), especially in regards to children, it’s normal for us to feel more pain and even anguish. People close to me who have experienced traumatic events often ask me where God is through it all and why He allowed it. My only response is that I don’t know why they went through it, but our Father has his plans and He gives us grace to withstand it.

But if God already has a perfect plan for everything - why do we bother praying for anything? If He already has a plan to end abortion at a specific time in the future, what good will we do by praying about it?

Remember how the Lord prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane. He prayed that the cup would pass from Him, but let the Father’s will be done regardless. In our prayer with the Father, we are outwardly displaying our passions and desires that come from within. Your prayers are to bring you closer to Him, not to gain some favor or favors with Him. And you might find that He shows you what His plan is.
I believe we should look at prayer as communion. The less we talk the more we can hear. I would suggest readings from some of the Church’s early mystics. My prayer life is nowhere near where it needs to be. If I prayed more and listened for His voice, I would receive either the answers to my groanings or peace regardless. Ask Him to help you through this and give you peace.

That’s like saying, “Why should I bother with ever talking with my parents when they’ll give me my food and bed and toys whether I do or not?” By talking with our parents, we get to know them better and love them more, and we learn what their will is. We in turn do their will, if we’re good, and make both them and ourselves the happier for it. We make their many tasks the easier by participating in their will rather than leaving it all to them or resisting it outright.
God has made us “co-creators with him,” participants in the fulfillment of his will here on Earth. If we shirk our responsibility to do good by praying according to God’s will, then good won’t be done because we will have failed to fulfill our duty as “co-creators.”
By praying against abortion, we can save lives. We are taught to pray in the Our Father, “thy kingdom come, thy will be done.” We are praying that God’s will shall be done. Even Jesus prays to the Father.
God has a will for everyone and the devil does too. God turns people over to the devil when they reject God’s ways. So we pray in accord with God’s will against the power of the enemy, thus saving lives and becoming part of the fulfillment of God’s will on Earth. It is a glorious calling we all have.
