Great photos - thanks for sharing!

Nice to see the healthy number of Latin clerics present, as well.

I am a big fan of His Beatitude, and pray often for him and our Ukrainian cousins in the UGCC. Many years!

He is a great guy! And a wonderful singer! I got to chat with him a little bit but I was pretty overwhelmed and I didn’t really know what to say.

Great event!

One question- where is the iconostas?

John
There was a time our parishes didn’t have it. But this is the biggest of the parishes and so obviously we’d need more money for the iconostas. It’ll come, one day.

Yes, IMHO he is among the best chanters in the Byzantine-Slav hierarchy at present.

I have heard the same from other who have met him. He does have a bit of a star quality, despite being very open, approachable and friendly.

I’m sure you could get contributions for this beautiful temple - count me in!

The side and main altars are well proportioned and ornamented. It wouldn’t take much to add one of the more “open” designs of icon screen, allowing a “peak” at the beauty of the sanctuary while being Byzantine-compliant. This seems to be the direction for modern cathedrals, anyway, allowing space for functions with concelebrating and visiting hierarchs and clergy.

I wasn’t too surprised, as it seems that the sanctuary is more of a cathedral design and size. Was that perhaps intentional (not sure exactly what parish this might be)?

That is the thing. How do you talk with him? He is indeed humble and down-to-earth, but would you casually chat with your Patriarch about random things? Should I only be talking about theological questions? Maybe I should have asked him what he thinks about the Pope :D:D:D

I’m not a fan of football/soccer so we couldn’t have talked about that.

But it’s very probable he would have been genuinely interested in your personal background and in learning what brought you to the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.

Or something like, “so, Pope, above you or ahead of you but on the same level?”

Sweet, I’m in the video 😉

I haven’t even looked at what my mom recorded on our videocam.
I think I can take a wild stab, as to where you are 😉 Unless there are other “Asians,” or Filipinos, at your parish 😉

Well, among those vested in Byzantine liturgical garments. We did have some RC guests around the altar so I’m not the only non-Ukrainian up there.

There are other Filipinos in our parish. My wife and 2 kids 😃

Oh, and this is not our parish. This is the bigger church just outside downtown Vancouver. The Cathedral is in another city.

What I want a video of is His Beatitude entering the (where the) royal doors (should be) and he was singing something in Ukrainian. Sometimes you wonder how special he really is, one can easily imagine a bishop delaying his ordination into the diaconate or priesthood because with a voice like his they’d want to keep him cantoring or being a deacon for a while.
