If, hypothetically, I was called to be a Deacon an Eastern Catholic Church, would I need to change Rites? Or could I somehow be both? What’s the age requirement? Just curious 🙂

If you are a Latin Rite Catholic you would have to switch to the ritual Church in which you wish to be ordained. Further, before anyone would consider such a switch you would need to spend some time attending the local parish of that Church and getting involved.

Generally a single man can be ordained a deacon at 25 and a married man at 35. Note that a married man must have the permission and support of his wife and any children.

One doesn’t “change rites.” A rite is simply a Christian community’s spiritual, theological, liturgical, and cultural patrimony. What one can do is switch to a different autonomous Catholic church, of which there are twenty-three. Think of it as becoming subject to a different bishop, in a distinct hierarchy.

Out of curiosity, why would it matter which church you become a deacon in? Isn’t the office of deacon, and its responsibility of service, universal? After all, it’s not like the marriage issue with regard to being ordained a priest, as the Latin Church does ordain married men to the diaconate.

Indeed. The OP hasn’t even logged in for over a year! The other original participants haven’t been here for even longer!
