Vocations Needed. Why are parents so stingy?

I believe there is a direct correlation between the use of contraception and the lack of vocations. Growing up my father felt strongly about “carrying on the family name” As my brother was the only grandson, he was highly encouraged to get married and have kids. If they had more kids, maybe the children wouldn’t feel pressured to choose marriage, leaving the priesthood as a viable option.
Fr. Dwight Longenecker wrote about the connection between contraception and the vocation crisis, and said that the relationship is far more than simply fewer children. He brings up a lot of good points, everyone should read it!

Not to mention the crisis of marriage and families. Archbishop Dolan of New York said that the Church fixed the marriage and family crisis, we’d have all the priests and religous we need. A couple of years ago, my parish, in celebration of its 100th anniversary, held a Rosary Eucharistic Congress in reparation for the sins commited against the family.

I’m not married myself, but it is my DREAM to have a son become a priest, and a daughter join a religous order. Will it happen? Don’t know. That’s up to God. I doubt that I’m worthy of being the mother of a priest.
