Could it be done on a Saturday or Sunday for example?
Do you know what the impediment for weekend is , if there is?
Nothing for or against mail , just wondering because where I live voting is mandatory and we are distributed among many many locations/ voting places according to alphabetical name order and our declared place if residence and well , it goes reasonably smoothly. And it is always on a Sunday. No working that day , or people organize themselves in shifts at work so they can go vote. Most stores which are not necessary remain closed. It is like a special day
Just asking

Depends on where you live.

North Carolina’s state senate passed a controversial law that eliminated early voting the Saturday before Election Day. That day was the most popular day for folks casting their ballots early in 2018, and it was especially popular with Black voters. Ohio did something similar in 2014 when officials cut early voting on Sundays and weekday evenings, targeting “Souls to the Polls” groups led by Black religious organizations that took their congregations to cast their ballots following Sunday church service.

Yeah, that’s not voter suppression at all.

We need international election monitors.

Thorolfr . . .
I can’t believe all the people quoting Dr. Fauci on this voting issue who not long ago were dismissive of his medical advice on other issues . . .
Actually it’s the other way around.

I’m still frequently dismissive of him.

It is your guys who have made him into a demigod.

So I thought I would appeal to YOUR GUY.

You mean you are now going to be “dismissive” of our “national treasure” on voting in person!!??

Just looking for more incremental BIG Government.

A few years ago with the Flint MI water fiasco, some of the local leftists were openly calling for international governance (The UN in this case) too.

“More and BIGGER Government will always deliver us” (even in the case of Government failure) was their attitude.

Then it is none of our business why any John Q. Citizen decides to vote by mail . .
But nobody here has made it their business.

You are going back to your favorite argument – changing my premise – then arguing against YOUR OWN point that you plugged INTO my premise.

I have never has an issue with voting by mail.

My issue is with imposed vote by mail without verification.

And all the fallacies of equivocation in the world, are not going to make vote by mail necessary.

No, but Trump has made it his business, drawing a distinction between “mail-in” and “absentee” voting. That distinction comes largely down to having a good excuse. So Trump has set himself up as the judge of what constitutes a “good excuse”. Therefore he is making it his business why someone want to vote by mail.

It has always been that.

That is not a “Trump” phenomenon. We both know that Leaf.

But that is changing. Many states have erased that distinction - as they should. In fact, wanting to avoid coronavirus ought to be an adequate reason for anyone to vote absentee. The Republican National Convention is going to be mostly virtual for that same reason. If those delegates are afraid of getting sick, you can see how John Q. Public can also be afraid of getting sick.

What about when Obama was running for re-election and people wanted to avoid influenza.

Where were your comments on that?

You can link me to two of THOSE comments of yours right now. Right Leaf? 😉

There is nothing that suggests this threat to our system is necessary.

No Leaf.

This is political alright. And everybody knows it (but not everybody will admit it).

It is a ploy to steal an election.
Just like the Google-muzzling.
Just like siging up felons to vote.
Just like Pelosi pushing for 16 year olds to vote.
Just like California’s ballot harvesting.

And the left is frustrated, because a significant contingent of conservatives are not falling for these tricks.

The left CANNOT win on their horrible self-destructive ideas. They MUST resort to attempting to fool voters.

That has nothing to do with “big government”

It has everything to do with the President trying to sabatoge the election like a dictator in a banana republic.

PaulinVA wanting a quasi-government entity (although he won’t put it that way) or unit to come into our country and oversee America’s election now (we already have enough foreign election interference with Google) . . .
That has nothing to do with “big government”
I disagree.

Totally missing the point, there, Cathoholic. The point is that it’s immensely frightening that we NEED monitors.

And, I’d settle for the Carter Center, if they’re not busy.

I don’t recall that Obama every came out strongly against mail-in voting or threatened to defund and gut the post office.
There is nothing that suggests this threat to our system is necessary.
There is nothing suggest that it is a threat, except groundless accusations by Trump.
It is a ploy to steal an election.
Correction: a ploy to win the election fair and square.
Just like siging up felons to vote.
As they should be.

That would be because he didn’t. And if he had, Republicans would have started hearings within about ten minutes.

Thank you for posting this. As a computer programmer, I totally agree. Ain’t nothing wrong with paper ballots.

Mail in voting is fraught with error’s,ie: dead people receiving ballots, thus allowing for others’ to vote in their name. People registered in more than one state even, allowing to vote multiple times.Myriad issues that would be eliminated with in person voting.Additionally, mail in votes are not the same as absentee voting, the latter of which requires a lot more verification.
Which is why I wish states would require people to re-register for every election. None of this you can register once and it lasts for 50 years.
