What to do when someone your with uses vulgar words? I don’t mean direct insults to you, rather they speak offensively in general?

Try quotes from Proverbs on them. Especially about “holding ones tongue.” 😊

Are you seriously arguing that South Park presents some sort of deep philosophical lessons in each episode?

😅😰

“Kyles mom is a big fat b****”… Oh yeah man, so deep.

There’s a lot of wisdom her story as an over-protective parent who ends up making things worse with good intentions. There are a lot of Kyles moms on CAF.

Or a little girl walking up to her teacher: “Stay away from my man, b*****!” Man? What man? He’s a little kid.

At the urging of one of my sons, I watched a few episodes of South Park. I have to say I sort of agree with stupisisasstupiddoes on that one. If you can get past the language, they actually do offer some interesting perspectives on things. I think the one I first watched was about gentrification. Very interesting and valid points made.

They are also equal opportunity offenders.

When I was a kid, bad words were bad words. Yeah, I heard them. Not to be repeated. As an adult, same rule.

James 1:26

New International Version
Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless.

New Living Translation
If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless.

English Standard Version
If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless.

From a fellow sinner,
Ed

That’s no justification for such bad language. If I could, I’d edit out everything I found offensive, if there were any good parts left.

Meant to say to the OP, but got sidetracked by South Park, that I feel that some people use curse words as adjectives. It is vulgar and really adds nothing to the conversation. It just makes me think the person is angry all the time.

Ah, you misunderstood what I said. Please read my post after that one. I never said it was appropriate. I said some of the ideas on the show had merit.

They deal with complex issues, such as a new boy at school who people start to like until they find out he’s a mormon - the ending to that episode is ground breaking. It deals with parents who try and live their lives through child or project their own prejudices onto them and try and justify it in the name of ‘child safety’. Hypocrisy is a common theme too. Other episodes include topics like ‘how to vote when you think both candidates are rubbish’ and ‘how we treat old people’. Admittedly the first 5 seasons are really just over the top vulgarity, but after that the show become much deeper but maintained the vulgarity.

i have to politely disagree.

in real li, don’t believe in God, etC…
fe, all the people i know who swear excessively are the shallow thinkers, those are the people who are always drunk, always high, can’t hold down a job, fail in relationships

It also doesn’t tell the audience when to laugh. I can’t stand these comedy shows that put fake laughter in. Actually it has many jokes that people simply miss because they are said in a sincere tone but actually the content is contradictory and hypocritical (e.g. stan’s dad).

I know plenty of people that swear that are successful, married, non-drinkers.
That is the problem with generalizations.

So none of you had a great laugh while watching South Park? 😁
I think they nailed it so to speak about Christian rock " all you have to do is replace the word baby with Jesus and there you have it." And then all rock is like Christian.
Oh and they have also graphic violence if we are to nitpick at them.

I fail to see how money has to do with anything here or the capacity of one to earn them.

Take this example of depth, it’s an entire song dedicated to the theme of parents projecting their own failures onto other people and the willingness of crowds to be led into simple, irrational solutions to complex problems. If that’s not a complex issue then I don’t know what is. Furthermore, if you can stand 2 naughty words and watch the song in it’s context, you’ll realise how easy it is to miss the lines in bold which is really the core message of the song:

Time’s have changed
Our kids are getting worse
They won’t obey their parents
They just want to fart and curse

Should we blame the government?
Or blame society?
Or should we blame the images on TV?

No, blame Canada, blame Canada
With all their beady little eyes
And flappin’ heads so full of lies

My son could’ve been a doctor or a lawyer rich and true
Instead he burned up like a piggy on a barbecue

Should we blame the matches?
Should we blame the fire?
Or the doctors who allowed him to expire?
Heck no

Blame Canada, blame Canada
With all their hockey hullabaloo
And that ***** Anne Murray too
Blame Canada, shame on Canada

The smut we must stop, the trash we must smash
Laughter and fun must all be undone
We must blame them and cause a fuss
Before someone thinks of blaming us
