Smallpox and the plague
Are actually real.
I do not even know what to say.

I’ve just lost a neighbour to this. She was young. I won’t engage any more.
Think about someone other than yourself.
Innocent people are dying.

But the issue here seems to be defiance of lawful Church authority. If a pastor can disregard his bishop, then why should laity regard the pastor? Why not Laity confect Eucharist in their own homes? Any parent can “do” confession! If the bishop won’t ordain Sally, why not a respected village elder?
This. We are not talking about disobeying a sinful order from a bishop – it’s a lawful decision that is within his purview. Disobeying it would be selfish and sinful.

We are supposed to be about eternal life, not this one. I support the priest - it’s time for civil disobedience from Christians.
Think of the Church as something like a union. On occasion, a union might be forced to go on strike, only for a good reason. Then, the strike is effective only to the extent the union is united.

A wildcat strike is when angry small groups go out on their own. They make a lot of noise, help people feel vindicated, maybe a thrill of wearing the Defiant Badge but in the long run ineffective. They undermine the union.

There’s a whole group of wildcat websites out there, Church Militant, 1p5, LSN, Remnant, Rorate, etc. They oppose the Church hierarchy on Covid closures, and on everything else.

They may present themselves as heroically “standing up to the establishment” but really they’re only anti Catholic hierarchy. By encouraging wildcat actions by a few “brave” priests and Laity, they undermine the larger union cause.
