These people do what they want because they are the Church, they are the people of God and they can do anything that feels good or that they want to do. No matter what that may be… Freedom, that is what it is all about, freedom to do what you want, how you want and when you want. Freedom from all authority all rules and all requirements. Freedom to have that personal relationship with God, where He is exactly what you want him to be and you are exactly what you want to be. Conform or not conform, it doesn’t matter to God because you are what matters and He loves you and will forgive anything, anytime and you don’t have to do anything at all.except what you choose to do.

Freedom baby, live the way you want to live:thumbsup: 👍 👍 👍 …

That is the reason people do what they do and act the way they act. Nothing more and nothing less…
Hey, you must know some of my family!😃

Rach620,
Palmas was being sarcastic, most progressives would try and be more subtle… Unless they are LA congress or something like that then all the flair comes out.

Thank you, tuescat,

That’s right I am a jerk.🙂

They would probably get mad too if someone insisted that they recieve on the tongue as per the GIRM, if we had a risk of profanation.

That would be too obedient and would surely ruffle the feather of the “thinking Catholics*”.
(*those who like to think of new evil things to do in defiance of the Church)

God Bless

Not a jerk. However there may be the odd case where a person (especially if elderly) does have ‘senior’ moments. With an increasingly elderly and lonely population of churchgoers it wouldn’t surprise me at all that some may suffer from undiagnosed or untreated “senior-itis” of different kinds.

Of course you did the correct thing to protect the Eucharist. My own priest had to stop someone the other week. Luckily he saw them from the corner of his eye as he was about to distribute communion to the next person (I think it was the person before me) and nipped it in the bud.

And we have to remember that the biggest and by far most common profanation of the Eucharist is receiving in a state of mortal sin. While reinstituting communion on the tongue only may possibly lower instances of this, I wouldn’t be willing to bet on it.

How uncharitable of you:tsktsk: She probably merely wanted to take it home and share it with someone. They used to do that in the early Church you know, thats why they received in the hand. A tidbit that most don’t realize and even fewer accept, but it is the truth… But as for the attitude today, simple:

Oh dear Lord, please, please tell me you’re being sarcastic, or we have more problems than I thought . . .

Hey, you must know some of my family!😃
Too funny 🙂 I’m a bit like you mommy, I like the NO Mass.

On a more serious note, this whole thing makes me think of the mentally disabled. My own daughter suffers from server learning disablities and seizures. She is a bit developmentally delayed. Her processing speed is incredibly slow so she does take her time taking commuion. I guess my point is you never know what is going on with someone.

I was serving the Precious Blood Christmas eve and this women came up with her husband and he had his arm around her and she looked really scared or upset and I could tell something was wrong as she did cling to the Host a bit longer than made me comfortable. Her husband was nearly holding her up. I wasn’t about to say anything. Poor dear. I had this big lump in my throat, I felt so sorry for her. 😦 😦

Your right even though recieving on the tongue would stop most the abuses and profaning of Jesus we need confession to be brought back.

That is another thread but let me rant a little since you brought it up.

It drives me nuts to see maybe 3 people going to confession each Saturday and in my parish about 200 going to recieve the Eucharist.

What, you guys are now a buncha saints? Heck I need to go to confession at least every couple months and I am not the most saintly person, sin is not that far away from me, but I am trying. Even saints made it more of a habit by frequenting confession often.

Confession has been put on the backburner while sin is poo poohed away. (is that spelled right?)

When you have only 2 couples with many kids and the rest have maybe 1 or 2? Hmm there is a good chance some are contracepting, but do we hear that from the pulpit? Do they receive communion, sure they do! They never hear about sin, but they do hear those clever jokes Father gets off the internet.

I am sure there might be some senior moments and they might not do things as they should, but the lady I saw was about 25 or so. She wasn’t a senior and I am pretty sure she didn’t consume the Eucharist until she saw me walking up to her. But we shouldn’t think bad about the person, I don’t know her motives,(maybe there were none) but I do need to guard peoples actions.

We go to Mass to receive the Eucharist for ourselves in a celebration with the broader community of the faithful. This is not the proper way of ‘sharing’ the Eucharist with another person who may be at home. If they are home-bound, there are various ministers who will bring the sacrament to them. Yes, Masses were often celebrated at home in the early Church, but it is still not appropriate to take the Host outside of the Mass to someone who was not present there to ‘share’. We don’t take the Body of Christ ‘to go’. There is a certain amount of dignity and reverence which is due to the consecrated host which someone carrying it in their hand outside of the Church is not providing it.

I suppose this is the message you gleaned from Vatican II? Yes, the Church is the People of God, there does exist a ‘priesthood of all the faithful’–but this doesn’t liberate us from the authority of the hierarchical priesthood. Reading Lumen Gentium might clear this distinction up for you.

As human beings we are most definitely free–free to choose what is right, not what we ‘feel’ to be best for us, regardless of what the teaching of the Church might say. We are obligated to choose what is good–and we do this by following God’s commands, because of course He wants what is best for us.

Your relativism frightens me. There is no point in any sort of belief if it’s all relative–you deciding what you want your God to be like and me deciding about mine. That’s not faith at all. That’s making yourself to be God, following your own will because it makes you feel warm and fuzzy.

True faith requires realizing that as fallen human beings we are sinners, and that our own desires will not lead us to holiness unless we conform them to God’s will. Conformity, in this case, isn’t a negative thing at all, but what we must do as Catholics.
Actually, it is the massage that most people seem to have gotten from Vatican II, not me. I know what Vatican II said, and more than that, I know what they meant. They didn’t mean Barney Masses, female Priests, contraception, abortion on demand or anything else that so many supposedly committed Catholics are clamoring for and in fact support wholeheartedly, all the while filing up to the altar every week or whenever they go to receive Holy Communion.

Why do I frighten you? Because I’m not afraid to point out what so many others are afarid to? Or does it cut a little too close to home to have some of the outrages exposed. To have some of the interior feelings brought out to the light of day.

No don’t be frightened of me. Hate me perhaps for pointing things out that maybe you don’t want to see, but don’t fear me. The truth is the truth.

I have read Lumen Genitum. Have you?

May I reiterate – the woman I stopped this morning was definitely not senile or having a “senior” moment. She was either not Catholic, which I think is the case, or she had bad intentions, which I DON’T think was the case.

I have helped and have had patience with communicants who were having trouble receiving - either mentally deficient, confused, handicapped, whatever - but usually they have someone accompanying them to help them. I’d have to say, these situations are fairly obvious.

There’s no reason to walk down the aisle after the Host has been placed in the hand, even if someone is “slow”. I’d never dream of rushing someone in front of me because they’re taking an extra moment to consume the Eucharist. But I won’t hesitate to approach someone who is taking Jesus back to the pew. He is too Precious to me to take the risk.

So you’re an expert now in early signs of senility - or may I add the myriad of other mental and physical illnesses which may also result in a person genuinely being confused upon reception of the Eucharist. Most of them can occur at any age and are often fairly subtle.

The mere fact that you refer to senility as if that is the only possible explanation shows that you know nothing of the kind.

If they’re going to do announcements and ask us to turn off cell phones at the beginning of Mass, I don’t see why they cannot also take the time to quietly remind everyone that only Catholics who are in a state of grace may receive Holy Communion and that eveyone else should refrain. They could simply refer everyone to page such and such of the missalette that specifies who may or may not rec. Holy Communion (the guidelines are quite clearly spelled out).

I’m sure you are very cautious of who you would stop my friend and I don’t blame you for looking after our Lord. My point was, you never know…but it sounds like you do 🙂 My daugther looks very normal and you would never know she has problems until you start to talk to her. Personally, I think she does a very good job when receiving. If I can get her to look up at the priest and say Amen I’d be so much happier, but she does the best she can and the Father knows all about her so he is always patient with her.

I don’t understand what someones thinking is by taking to the pews. That is very odd.

Man, oh man, I can never figure out on these forums why people would say such rude things that they’d NEVER say face to face. I did nothing to deserve your rude attack.

I never said I was an expert so don’t accuse me of claiming to be one. Please don’t make me defend myself in such a way again.

Have to be inclusive Jkrik, don’t want to offend the pseudo-protestants sitting in the pews. Also, saying such a thing would inevitably bring up the topic of Sin, which of course doesn’t exist anymore…

[/sarcasm]

az 4 faith: Without a second thought I followed her, tugged at her coat and and asked her why she wasn’t eating the Host. She gave me the oddest answer. Looking down at the host, she said, “What, this?” I told her to eat the Host IMMEDIATELY! She did.
I hear the Church of Satan is short on consecrated Hosts…

Unfortunate, but true - the (true) Black Mass takes Our Saviour hostage and offers him to Satan! This started in the 1960’s and continues in the cult to this day. It is a blasphemy:mad: !

Prayers and petitions,
Alexius:cool:

Trust me, when it comes to issues of mental illness I would be exactly that blunt to the face of anyone who displays ignorance of the issue. I have sufferers in my own family, who struggle very hard to not show obvious symptoms of their illnesses, only to be met with people like you who appear to believe that there is no such thing as mental ilness unless it’s obviously displayed. I feel passionately about the issue, funnily enough.

I do apologise, since of course I very possibly misunderstood and overreacted.

Yea, but that might make them explain what being “in a state of grace” means, and tell us about mortal and veniel sins are, and we might learn something…It could open up a whole can of worms.:o

For that very reason, all our EMHCs were training to be very diligent. Sad reality, but true.

I think my next Rosary will be offered in reparation for all whose intention is to blaspheme the Blessed Sacrament.
If anything, this must cause Our Lady to weep the most . . .

Thanks Lily, this is so true. You would never know my daughter had anything wrong with her. She looks completely normal. 😦 People have often misunderstood. I get tired of explaining.

Even misunderstanding or overreacting doesn’t call for uncharitability. I’m sorry if I spoke without being understood, but even so, your statements were very hurtful.

What are you saying man??? You would advocate denying Holy Communion to the stray Protestant, Buddhist, Hindu, Taoist, Animist, Muslim, Shinto, Voodist, Wiccan Pagan or Satanist that wandered in???** And even to fellow Catholics that don’t measure up to your impossible standards?:bigyikes: :bigyikes: :bigyikes: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO**

Tell me that you are joking, please. What about hurting their feelings? Their sense of self worth. Their very dignity man!!! They’ll be offended Kirk, all because of you and your medieval Pre Vatican II sentiments., Why they’ll feel left out after we invited them in. The Horror Kirk, the Horror.

Kirk, I’m shocked, mortified and scandalized that you of all people would want to practice inclusiveniss in the context of the Mass:bigyikes: . Where is your sense of ecumenism and inter faith relations? Where is your sense of decency man? WHERE WILL IT END.???

Had to save a good for you Kirk.👍

Hope you and your family are doing fine. Best wishes for a Happy New Year. May the peace and grace of our Lord be with you and yours each and every day, Kirk. Take care old friend.
