It is not always made clear to people what exactly is expected. I’ve been ‘doing it right’ purely by accident, not cos I knew. The other issue is the one of chewing the Host or letting It melt - I assumed chewing would be wrong yet I have seen priests teaching kids about 1st Communion and neglecting to tell the kids not to chew. Maybe you can chew but I won’t.

Linnyo—now you know that it is not acceptable to walk away with our Lord in hand.

There is no issue in whether one chews or lets the Host dissolve in our mouth—both are acceptable. Some of us by custom–let the host soften in our mouth–then swallow. Others chew.

How about when the Priest holds him up for the consecration, when he holds it up for the Agnus Dei, when the minister holds it up before giving it to you.

Contemplate him then.

But taking the host back to the seat with you is completly unacceptable.

Of course sticking him in a monstrance or tabernacle as a community pet-Jesus is entirely different 😉 :rotfl: (joking)

There was a time back in the early days of Christianity when people actually would be given the Eucharistic bread to take home (either for those who couldn’t come to Mass or to keep until the next time a priest came to give them more - since visits might be few and far between.)

That being said, it has for a long long time been Church discipline not to take the Sacred Body out of the church unless in the highly regulated context of a visit to the ill or homebound or very few and highly regulated other occasions. And for incredibly good reason when one thinks of what Satanists do to Our Lord.

Next thing you know we’ll have a ‘just-add water’ eucharistic host.
 
There is an antique store in Taos, NM, that used to have this weird costume in the front of the store, sort of a KKK looking khaki colored outfit. Maybe from some Spanish parade or maybe even from some kind of SS ritual. Anyway, it seemed really sinister. They also had chalices for sale, and patens, and that kind of thing. I called my diocese, but they said they couldn’t do anything, but that these kinds of things are prized by Satanists. Yikes. They also like to steal hosts to use in their rites. Double yikes!

I think you live in a really scary place, We don’t really have weird stuff like that going on here. The most there is here is people who tell fortunes but noone really believes inthat except themselves. Satanists - I’ve never met one and I’d say I’ve met a lot of folks. Oh - I have met one person who did pagan festivals but she didn’t scare me - she was very nice actually - just a bit misled.

I had been warned about people stealing the Host for the “Black Mass” as far back as the early 90’s.

We were also told to watch out for strangers (who don’t enter the church) offering money to children to take a Host for them.

Fortunately, never run into that kind of situation as far as I know.

I just read the article, and it just makes my heart hurt for our Lord. 😦 It makes the host getting stuck in the missle, or placed under the carpets look tame by comparison. I think I’m going to offer some prayers of repairation for Him today.
