I’m pretty sure Target does not use “Christmas”. Their website has lots of “Holiday” on it! As for the Salvation Army–Target gives a lot back to the community–they just have to apply there for funds now instead of standing in front of the store (I think)

I just received an answer from Wal-Mart regarding my email. The answer reads as follows:

Thank you for your message.

First, thank you for your inquiry. At Walmart.com (www.walmart.com)), we’re committed to offering our customers a broad merchandise selection that appeals to our wide range of customers of all backgrounds and beliefs.

It is unfortunate that this issue has been taken out of context. This year, hundreds of thousands of customers will buy Christmas decorations, gifts and thousands of items to celebrate the Christmas holiday at Wal-Mart, and many of them will also shop online. At Walmart.com, we’re pleased to offer our online shoppers access to nearly 8,000 Christmas-related items. (Please click here to view: walmart.com/catalog/search-ng.gsp?search_redirect=false&dept=0&search_query=christmas)

We appreciate hearing from you, and always take customer feedback into account as we further grow and enhance our website.

Thank you,

Amy Colella

My reply to Amy was that if Christmas is labeled ‘holiday’ out of fear of offending people who are not Christians, then the issue has not been taken out of context.

I see, however, that you didn’t receive a response. :hmmm:

Right you are, Jennifer. I checked out both sites earlier and found that both Wal-mart and Target are substituting “Holiday” for “Christmas” in many - but not all - cases. You can still find “Christmas” items on both sites. I’m choosing not to boycott either.

I just sent my protest e-mail. If they don’t recognize a Christian holiday, then I won’t recognize their store anymore.

I just looked at my JC Penney catalog…It’s a CHRISTMAS BIG BOOK.

So, I ordered much of “santa” from JC Penney…I will purchase the rest from small, local owned businesses in my town…

Why don’t every one just try to make special effort to buy from family owned business, you know the ones on the town squares, etc.

No I do not work for Penney’s but I do own a Family business. The big box stores are going to be the down fall of America.

BTW, I send CHRISTMAS cards to my customers…

Sent my email. I told them I’ll honor their request of not wanting to offend those who don’t celebrate Christmas by doing my Christmas shopping elsewhere. I’d hate for one of the other shoppers to see me in my festive Christmas sweater and feel like I’m “pushing” my Christian celebration on them!
Here is the response I got from Wal Mart:

We at Wal-Mart believe this e-mail between a temporary associate and one of our valued customers was entirely inappropriate. Its contents in no way represent the policies, practices or views of our company. This associate, who was hired less than three weeks ago, is no longer employed by our company.

Wal-Mart is proud to welcome customers of all faith, and celebrants of all holidays. We sincerely apologize to any person or organization that was offended by the inappropriate and inflammatory comments made by this former associate.

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.

The proof will be in the (Christmas) pudding… let’s see if they change the word “Holiday” on the website back to Christmas??

If this is the game these department stores are going to play, they can go ahead & wish whatever they like. I’ll just play along, by shopping elsewhere. Christmas wasn’t too bad when it built their empires, now all of a sudden these fellows are too big for their britches.

WAL-MART HAS BEEN PUT ON NOTICE

Bill Donohue commented today on the latest development in the Catholic League’s fight with Wal-Mart:

“Yesterday, I announced a boycott of Wal-Mart and asked 126 religious organizations that span seven faith communities to join with us. We want a) an apology for insulting Christians by effectively banning Christmas and b) a withdrawal of its insane statement regarding the origins of Christmas and c) a revision on its website.

“The piece today by Joe Kovacs on worldnetdaily.com quotes Wal-Mart spokeswoman Jolanda Stewart saying, ‘We already serve a diverse customer base, and we’re just trying to help them to celebrate their individual needs and wants.’ I thought Wal-Mart was a department store—not a Wellness Center.

“Stewart’s remark is flatulent. If Wal-Mart had a ‘Holiday’ section on its website that directed customers to its Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa sites, that would not be objectionable. What is objectionable is its steadfast defense of the statement about the origins of Christmas as crafted by its Customer Relations department, and the way its customers are directed online to find Christmas items. Searches for Hanukkah and Kwanzaa direct customers to the Jewish and African-American holiday sections, but searches for Christmas are directed to the ‘Holiday’ section. Ergo, Wal-Mart discriminates in its treatment of Christmas.

“Today, I e-mailed Dan Fogleman, Senior Manager of Public Relations, letting him know the following: ‘Now that Wal-Mart is standing by its position, I hope you’re ready for our next move. Don’t forget, we have the next six weeks to pull out all the stops, and we will.’”

Well, I already hated Walmart so this is just givng me more information to share with friends and family as to why they shouldn’t shop there. I would love it if their sales were seriously impacted by this nonsense.

That Bill Donahue is a hoot- “Not a wellness center” ( Still giggling 5 minutes later)…

I will only be buying the gift card for someone at Wal-Mart. It is actally the only time I shop there since there is not one close to where I live.

I hope that all of you who complained remember to send Walmart a thank you letter for listening to your concerns! That’s just as important as complaining!
