WalMart will require masks in U.S

But, if you are sharing air, that statement is not accurate. When what others do can kill you, it is your business. That is why indoor smoking was banned.
We are talking about an outdoor space (pool). We are not required to use masks if we are social distancing at the pool. And we are not required to social distance if we are in the same bubble . County Health Department rules.

Also, most stores have exceptions for people with health problems.

IMHO, people with health problems shouldn’t go into stores without masks on - they are more vulnerable to getting sick. And they can spread the virus. Why should people with health problems be allowed to make other people sick?

Different topic - this one is about Walmart’s policy.
And it is extremely sad that such a policy needed to be established. That some people cannot understand the necessity to protecting themselves and OTHERS from a deadly disease. There is also a mandatory seat-belt law and not wearing one only endangers the driver.

I am a Libertarian, who values personal freedom. But if personal freedom endangers others, then freedom must yield.

If a medical item is in limited supply, like for organ transplants, then destructive behavior might well disqualify them.
You are correct about organ transplants, but limited supply is not the only reason. I was tested to be a living kidney donor for my sister back in 2006 and was very impressed with how well thought out and moral the regulations were. The main reason not to do a transplant for someone still exhibiting destructive behavior is that the transplant will fail and possibly put two individuals at surgical risk for no gain. It is also a very expensive waste of financial resources. My sister eventually got a kidney from a deceased donor, at a cost of $700,000 when you include all the medications before and after the procedure.

There are many procedures that cannot be done on seriously obese people because they pose an unreasonable risk to the patient, not to punish the patient. There are several pre-existing conditions that preclude procedures that require immune system suppression, but sometimes patients and their families feel they are being denied their only chance at a normal life. These families are not always rational in their thinking when under such high stress.

I never wear a mask unless its required by a store that I want to go in to. If it’s not required then absolutely not. And if I have to drive a little further to shop at a store that doesn’t require masks, I’ll do that.

You aren’t concerned that you could pass on Covid to those close to you or anyone for that matter?

Target and CVS just announced mask mandates. 🙂

Not related to retail, but there’s a vocal group in the Atlanta area demanding masks for schools.

Not sure how that will work out with the Governor of the state prohibiting mask mandates.

Just out of curiosity, how much further are you willing to drive? If you were under a state-wide mandate would you drive to another state just for the privilege of spreading your droplets as far as nature will allow?

Not sure. I live in a rural area where people still hug and shake hands and most of us laugh at this stuff. It’s currently not difficult to find every necessity without having a mask. If it gets down to a state wide mandate, I’ll probably either seek out the rogue stores and businesses first and then wear masks where I absolutely have to.

I’ve also considered getting a mask exemption note from a rogue doctor who I know. There are a lot of doctors who see this as foolishness.

I’m guessing Delta has encountered that…

From https://abcn.ws/2DTRXT6
Delta Airlines will require passengers who refuse to wear a mask on board to complete a “virtual consultation” with a health professional prior to travel.

Delta said this will “ensure everyone’s safety, because nothing is more important.” The airline currently mandates that all passengers wear a mask.

The airline is the first to attempt to crack down on a potential loophole in which customers could say they cannot comply with the face covering requirement because of a medical condition.

The consultation will consist of a private phone call facilitated by Delta employees at the airport, according to an airline spokesperson.
The call will be with “medical professional consultants, including doctors” from STAT-MD, according to Delta. STAT-MD is an arm of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, which Delta has partnered with in the past, the airline stated.

Pending outcome of the consultation, a final determination to fly is made, the spokesperson said.

If a privately owned company wants to require masks, I have no problem with that. I can choose to comply or go on my way.

Privately owned companies should be able to require anything they want. If they insist that their customers wear dog costumes or socks on their ears in order to enter, so be it.

I just got the e-mail notification from WalMart about the requirement a few minutes ago.

Kudos to Walmart! I rarely go there, but for the most popular store in the country to set a standard, it will go a long way toward people realizing that society has a right to expect them to do something for the common good.
