I have two questions for non-Catholics. And please, to the Catholics, I would respectfully request that you NOT reply apologetically (or at all for that matter) to the responses to the questions. This is not a debate, just a fact finding mission. Thanks.

#1. Why are you a Christian? 🤷 And…

#2 Why are you not a Catholic?

Thank you for your honest replies. šŸ‘

In that ā€œChristianā€ means ā€œChristlike,ā€ I must say I am not a Christian. I am far from being like Him. I fail too many times. In the way that word ā€œChristianā€ is generally meant and used, I’d have to plead guilty of being a Christian. I am not a Roman Catholic because I have yet to find a compelling reason to be one. I’ve read the Catechism, the Dogmas, the canon (bits and pieces), and Karl Keating’s apologetics. I even listen to Catholic radio quite often. All these have taught me some interesting things that have changed my mind about the Catholic Church on many things. I have lurched on this forum several months now. I am still learning about Catholicism, but I have yet to find a compelling reason for me to convert. There is still much more for me to study. There are over 3 million posts on this forum. There is no way I can read all of them in many lifetimes, let alone mine. Because there is still much for me to read and study, maybe I will find the compelling reason someday. So if you want me to become a Catholic, don’t give up hope.

#1. Why are you a Christian?
I’m not. At least not right now. I was Catholic and found Christianity not to my liking.
#2 Why are you not a Catholic?
Long story. And one for another time. Perhaps if one day we met in person I could tell you, but it would be a long and complicated story.

**In the story and message of Jesus of Nazareth I find peace and hope and strength to live in a world filled with strife, lostness and pain.

In his message of unconditional love of God I find hope. In his message and life I see God revealed…in his message that God is Father and can be approached in confidence of a child to a parent.

Through him the love of God was lived out before us…he ā€œmade senseā€ the whole idea of God…he showed us exactly what God is like…he ate with sinners, spared the woman, gave dignity to the outcasts and lepers…that is why I follow him.**

#2 Why are you not a Catholic?

It does not meet my needs. I did not change one set of rituals and rites for a different set…in Christ all requirements for someone else to act on my behalf was removed…I now stand before Him in confidence. The idea of someone having to do something for me, be it sprinkle water on my head or serve me bread and wine to know the Presence in my life holds no sway for me. /B]

I’m not a Christian.

I’m not a Catholic because I’m not a Christian.

WOW! Easiest questions I’ve answered on here yet! šŸ˜‰

  1. I am not Christian. While I have a lot of respect for many teachings of Christ, I do not believe he is the unique (only begotten) son of an almighty god.
  2. Because I don’t believe the teachings of the Catholic faith to represent literal ultimate truths. I think it is a worthwhile spiritual discipline and agree with most of it’s moral teachings.

#1. Because I believe it to be the truth.

#2. Because I don’t believe it to be the truth.

A big factor is the circumstances into which I was born.

Hi Annette! Why am I christian?

Because I feel such a pull to God that I cannot ignore. He has led me through so much that to turn my back on Him would be like cutting off my air supply. I cannot breathe nor can I bear life without knowing that He is holding me, pulling me through my darkest days. He is there with me when I rejoice and there when I cry. God is my everything, though I falter sometimes He is Faithful and I can’t find that anywhere but with Him. 😊

Well, to start - I grew up non-denom and was not introduced to the catholic church until much later in life. But as I have been here and asked questions I still feel that I am on the path God wants me. So here I walk but I still like to learn about other Christian Faiths. šŸ™‚

I’m going to answer my questions in reverse order if that’s ok with you.

#2 Why are you not a Catholic?

I was a Catholic… for 33 years. I grew up in a strong Catholic family and went to mass every week, Catholic schools etc

#1. Why are you a Christian?

The reason I am no longer Catholic is because I believe that the Christians in the RCC are not following Christ. Majority of Catholics (I know anyway) live sinful lives and expect that God will save them anyway. The signs are wonders and full presence of God is present in the Christian church (penecostal) and it was those signs and wonders that converted me in the end.

#1. Why are you a Christian? 🤷 And…
I’m not. I do respect and have taken a lot from the teachings of Christ though, but I don’t believe he was incarnation of God.
#2 Why are you not a Catholic?
I don’t find many Catholic teachings to be complete truths like they claim. I am also wary of joining an organized religion.

I am a Christian partly because I grew up going to church and mostly because I claimed that faith as my own as I was convinced of its truth.

I am not Catholic because I am not convinced that the Catholic Church is right on everything - and I cannot in good conscience convert while disagreeing with the Catholic Church…even if what I disagree with it on is something that most Catholics probably disagree with as well.

  1. I am Chrisitan because I experienced the remarkable and unmerited grace of Christ through the Holy Spirit and I came to believe, in my heart and then with my mind and in my soul, that Jesus Christ is the messiah, Lord and saviour. (Praise be to God).
  2. I am not Catholic in part because my first exposure to the gospel was through evanengelical Protestants. I’m here because I’m still studying and praying about the Word and theology.
Blessings,

Brian

  1. I am a Christian cause I accepted Christ as the savior for my soul, and I would glaldy give my life for him.
  2. Lol, difficult question for me anyways. I am researching, but my parent will not allow me to be a Catholic, I cannot go to Mass, or RCIA, or even get a rosoray.
