Philadelphia organizers for Pope Francis’ visit in September have announced they will require as many as 10,000 volunteers for the six-day event, and have officially opened an online registration system allowing those eager to be part of the festivities to sign up.

According to officials with the World Meeting of Families, which will be hosted in Philadelphia throughout September 22-25, followed by the papal visit on Sept. 26 and 27, there are currently 100 openings for volunteers, although many more will be coming in the weeks and months to come.

Those who are 18 years of age or older and interested in volunteering can register at worldmeeting2015.volunteerhub.com.

Wish I lived in Philly, have seen the last two Popes, would love to see this one. Will be praying all goes smoothly and security is tight.:signofcross: I worry now after the arrests in Italy and this Holy Father doesn’t like too much security he likes to get out and about and greet the faithful.

Wonder if someone who does not live in Philadelphia [an attendee] is able to volunteer? Have read some volunteer positions require training, how would that be handled?
Is anyone planning on attending this wonderful event?

I’m going. Have train tickets and reserved room [45 minute train ride from City Center]. Can hardly wait for September…especially being able to attend Mass celebrated by Pope Francis. Speaker topics sound interesting and intend on listening to as many as possible. Why is registration so expensive?
