I’m going to contact a local church about beginning the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults process. I went through the Wikipedia article and usually that site is very informative, but not in this case.

What can I expect? I was baptized a baptist about 30 years ago, but would really like to do it again.

Thanks and bear with me. 🙂 This is soooo new to me.

If you were baptized in a Trinitarian Rite you will not be baptized again … there is only one baptism for the remssion of sins …

A Trinitarian baptism is being baptised “In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit” … any Trinitarian ibaptism s valid.

Morman baptism, Jehovah Witness and Christian Science are three that I know are not “valid” … they do not hold the same TRinitarian belief … Baptist, MEthodist, Presbyterian, Episcopal, Evangelical, Non-denominationsal … they are all valid …

If a person is unsure if their baptism took place or was valid [Trinitarian in form] … a conditional baptism can be performed …

Speak with your priest …

As “nice” as the symbology of the aptis could be … recognizing the “TRUTH” and permanancy behind your original baptism is so much better …

Plus you will be able to make much of the sacrament of reconcilliation which was refered to as a “Second Baptism” in the early centuries of he church … the process by which we bring ourseves back into right relationship with God and our fellow man when we fll prey to to the lier of lies [Satan] …

May God Bless yor journey of faith … 👍

Thank you for the quick reply and your patience and understanding. 🙂

It was a baptist church. What form it was I forget. It doesn’t even exist anymore; we met in a variety of temporary locations until a permanent church could be built – which never happened. I believe the pastor moved to another state. That’s when I stopped going. I went to a mass many years ago with a friend and was more impressed with it than any Protestant service I’d been to.

During the baptism I wore a T-shirt and a pair of shorts, they put a robe on me and immersed me in what looked like a jacuzzi. That’s all I remember.

I’ll do that. I think the words “Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost” were said.

Thank you again. 🙂

Although you have a valid Baptism (Holy Spirit and Holy Ghost are the same), you have not yet received the remaining two Sacraments of Christian Initiation - Confirmation and First Holy Communion. So you will have these to look forward to.

Praying for you on your journey home.

From what you’ve said, you may qualify for a “conditional baptism”. If there is no record of your baptism, and no witness to come forth, one may be performed to ensure that you are validly baptized. It is very likely that you are. The Catholic church recognizes these baptisms both because of their validity, as well as to reinforce that you were always a brother in the Body of Christ, even though separated from His church. All who are validly baptized are members of Christ’s mystical Body. Many remain separated, but those who are illuminated by the Holy Spirit come into full communion.

We welcome you with open arms! For, flesh and blood has not revealed this truth to you, but rather your Father in Heaven. You have had a Divine Revelation, much as Peter did in Matthew 16. Contact your parish, or your diocese for more information on how the RCIA program is run.

Welcome home and may the peace of Christ always remain with you.

Many evangelicals have reverted to baptisms, which are NOT valid, go with conditional.

My parents didn’t go. Dad was at work and I don’t think mom was there either.
It is very likely that you are.
I honestly am not one hundred percent certain.

Thank you and God bless you for your kind words of encouragement. 🙂

Actually, she did go. She just told me. But as for the type of baptism, neither of us remembers.

You have already made the right first step by listening to the Holy Spirit guide you.
I myself was away from the Church for many yrs and returned in Feb 08. I thank God for this gift daily. I would like to caution you on where you get your information on the internet as many people do not understand the true Catholic belief. A good place for truth is **vatican.va/phome_en.htm **That site has links to the caticism and many many other reliable sources of info.
This is a life long Journey so take it prayerfully and use the resources of the Church to guide you.Your local Church will be most happy to help.
Your rewards will amaze you .
May God continue to Bless and Keep you.

Thank you for the encouragement, Jim.

I’ll keep everyone updated on the RCIA process. I’m going to call tomorrow.

By the way, I just saw how to pray the rosary (here’s the site.) I just wonder how I’m going to remember all that!
