I am posting a warning about the children’s book Wizardology. It is from a series of very popular children’s books, which include Pirateology, Dragonology, Fairyology, etc. (Forgive me if these title spellings differ slightly.)

I cannot speak for the other books in the series, but a ten year-old boy showed me his Wizardology book and I was very concerned. It appears to be a book of witchcraft for children. The magic has very little to do with Merlin, as the cover suggests, and is not the harmless, metaphorical protrayal of magic found in fantasy and fairy-tales. It is modern neo-paganism aimed at children, including an emphasis on divining, fortune-telling, spell-castingetc. It even includes a specific spells, incantations, potion recipes and a tarot deck, which the boy demonstrated for me. He laid out the cards exactly the way a tarot reader would. He also told me of his plans to make a book of shadows and cast a circle of salt for protection around me.

I have seen the occult’s ability to influence people and to anyone considering buying this book, I say stay away.

Has anyone else seen this?

Sincerely,

Stephanie

Seen it and agree. As a convert from wicca, i can tell you that when you find out there actually are spell books, it’s fascinating and the temptation to try it is there, especially when no one has ever told you it’s evil. Sorcery doesn’t come up much in Christian conversations anymore, so paganism is able to tempt the young who have never been warned of the dangers.
Last year in Mexico, i think, they had a record number of exorcisms performed. In a country where Santeria and pacts made with the “Death Saint” are common, it’s no surprise.😦

Congratulations on converting! I am a convert as well, though not from Wiccan.

You are right that most people don’t take it seriously or play it off as harmless fun. I used to live in Salem, MA, which has become a center of Wicca and pagan spirituality. I live in another town north of Boston now. Even though it very, very small, we have a Magick store, 4 palm and tarot readers, and a significant population of people interested in the occult. What is particularly scary is how kids are drawn to these places.

You would know better than I, but from what I have observed, occult practices can tap into real supernatural power, but it is always demonic. It upsets me that people take it so lightly when they could be doing real damage.

Thanks,

Stephanie

PS: I come into contact with people interested in the occult and Wicca somewhat frequently. Would you mind sharing what helped you in your conversion and what things one should be sensitive to in speaking with Wiccans? Feel free to PM me or email me directly - sjangelini@hotmail.com

There’s a palm/tarot reader about a mile from me. When I think of it as I drive by, I make the sign of the cross toward the building, hoping it harms the business and converts the practioner some day.

I like to pray to Saint Michael and the Angels that they keep people from entering and protect those who have, and especially to Mary, who crushed the head of the serpent. I have heard that Padre Pio described the rosary as shooting arrows into the heart of Satan. Actually, the rosary is never really a bad idea!

@sjangelini do not pray to angles or saints or mary, only god and jesus

I have the book. I can see where it could be harmful to people that don’t know the difference between real and make believe, but to me it’s just a picture book. I don’t believe in magic, and wiccans or people that do believe in it need a good reality check. Magic is nothing but the stuff of fairy tales.

As the token Wiccan on the forum, I can say that “Wizardology” is not on any list of serious texts we use. On the other hand, if this 10-year-old kid is really casting circles and writing a book of shadows, he may yet become one of our greatest teachers:D

My son got that book at age 8, had a few weeks of marvelous fun with it, and never for one second doubted it was fiction. He is now approaching 10 and is preparing to be an altar server. So, Catholic identity unscathed… Maybe because I started reading Harry Potter to him when he was 5 or 6, he knew magic was fiction! (Oooo, that’s a whole other can of worms, huh? :slapfight: )

Seriously, dude… you dug up a 3 1/2 year old thread just to throw a barb at Catholic belief? Plus, I don’t know ANYONE who prays to angles. The 90 degree ones just seem very rigid and unhelpful, the acute ones look pinched and uncompassionate, and the obtuse ones… well, they’re obtuse.

You mean it’s not real!? ;_;

Jk. 😛

I personally find it very funny on how the “magic” of New Age paganism and the magic of fiction can be whole two worlds apart. If they were the same, I doubt we Christians would’ve survived.

You know it’s funny. They got children’s bibles, and books aimed to turn children Christian. But write a Pagan Children’s book and it is the work of the devil himself…

Double standards don’t you love them?

I’m just ticked in hindsight that I had no “wizardology” books when I was a kid. I might have Yoda-like powers by now…😃

It is not a double standard. Godly books are inspired by God and demonic books by forces of evil.

Us good, you bad. That is the basics of a double standard. Our (ADF’S) founder Isaac once stated our faith would be out lawed if possible. The longer I am on here the more I believe it.

I see. You believe in no absolutes. It is not a double standard (at least for most humanity throughout the history of the world) to call good good and bad bad. Well if that is your point of view then all of Christianity is a “double standard.” Even the judgement of the one true judge will be a “double standard”. Some will go to Heaven, and some will go to Hell. I appreciate you providing a good example of the difference Chrisitanity makes. We do view the world different than Pagans.

wow that really does sound like indoctrinating children… sure some children might realize it’s just a fictional book. But others might become interested in the real thing later on. I once almost became wiccan because of a tv show I watched! (when I was younger). Yes it’s possible. It’s like those ‘ouija boards’ they’re selling for children:mad:

At least you had the choice whether or not to become Wiccan, even with a young person’s deficient discernment skills. Many of us who are Wiccan “became” Catholic for no better reason than we were too small to prevent someone from splashing water on us and taking title to our souls.

If you’re going to tell me I can only talk to Jesus and God, at least show them some respect by properly capitalizing their names.

Those people who made that decision for you were probably your parents so what you just said does not reflect the reality of weather or not the ability to choose is either good or bad… they did alot of stuff to you that you were too young to say no to, such as enrol you in school and force you to get educated.

No one has full freedom of choice to live their life exactly how they would like it to be lived… that would truly be evil.

Your parents probably baptized you and made the decision for you thinking it was best for you, get over it… they made the same type of decision and that saw you get educated too. They were your parents, and the fact is that they have a right to raise you how they saw fit, and if baptism fit into their vision of how they wanted to raise you, than you should just accept that.

To say you should have the right to choose such things or to feel in some way “hurt” by the fact that your parents choose to do that to you is a subtle insult to your parents and their natural right to nurture you.

The freedom of choice that you did get is to either stay in the religion or not stay in the religion. So what really is the point of saying “Oh I had no choice because my parents/guardian choose it for me” except to show a sense of ungratefulness towards your Parent’s right to choose how to raise you in your childhood?
