Let me call your attention to the Pearl of Great Price (revealed to Joseph Smith).

The Book of Abraham (Abr 1:21-27) explains clearly that the lineage of Cain, preserved through Ham who married a Cannanite woman, “could not have the right of priesthood”.

The Book of Moses (in 7:22), explains that “the seed of Cain were black, and had no place among them”.

Most white Protestants already believed this anyway. Joseph just conveniently produced a scripture that said so in no uncertain terms.

Paul
Maybe Abraham and Moses were not speaking as Prophets when they wrote that…just a thought. Wow, how can one ever tell…sigh

😉

That’s right! After all, they didn’t say “Thus saith the Lord”.

More importantly, were their revelations brought before the members for a sustaining vote?

I truly feel sorry for Kathryn, Casen, and amgid. They are obviously decent people who wish to be faithful to their religion. But they are so ashamed of the crazy non-Christian doctrines taught by their leaders that they have retreated into this sola scriptura dodge in an attempt to be both Mormon and Christian at the same time.
No dodge! I had given sufficient quotes from LDS leaders and LDS scripture in another thread that this is Church doctrine and policy. See the thread called “When Did the ‘Mormon Jesus’ Become Divine?” post #32.
They would probably be more comfortable in the RLDS Church,
No chance! I am sure you would be. You are welcome to it.
As you have so ably pointed out, Mormons cannot be sola scriptura - their own scriptures declare as much.
Fat chance! See above.
They are stuck with their Prophets, Seers and Revelators for better or worse.
Sure we are. That is what makes it God’s only true Church. It is not like the Catholic Church you know, which apostatized centuries ago, and lost its prophets and apostles, and the ability to be led and guided by revelation.
The Mormons here do not disagree with us. They disagree with the LDS Church.
No such luck, I am afraid!

Please consider:

Hebrews 1:1-2:

God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,

Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

and I would recomend a reading of the entire 7th and 8th chapters of this letter as well.

I read these scriptures as telling us that it was under the OLD covenant that man required a “prophet” to lead the church and temple ordinances to be performed. This entire letter (the book of Hebrews) tells me that Christ, having fulfilled the Law of Moses, has now replaced these things. There is no need for this type of church structure or these practices.

The catechism of the RCC is very much in accord with the teachings and practices of the Apostles as shown us in the Bible.
