I am reading a book for a graduate level class in which the author states, “The Spirit that breathes life into creation is the source of the incarnate Jesus, calls and empowers his life and witness, raises him from the dead, and births the church of his followers into being.”
At first, I got tripped up on the word “source” – as in the Spirit being the source of Jesus – and know that is not possible given that the Father, Son and Spirit are One.
But what’s really got me now is the phrase “The Spirit . . .raises him from the dead . . . “
Was Christ raised from the dead or did he rise from the dead?
The Nicene Creed says, “he rose again . . . “ Did Christ rise by his own power or that of the Holy Spirit?
